Job Description:

The music teacher has the primary responsibility to plan, deliver, and provide general music and choral music experiences and instruction for the elementary student that will lead the students to a positive attitude toward music and a better understanding of music and greater skill in expressing music.

Description:

Responsibilities:

Instruction:

  • Plan and implement instruction consistent with AVA’s curriculum for music in grades K-5
  • Plan student musical performances throughout the school year and communicate accordingly with

students/parents

  • Use formal and informal methods to assess the abilities and needs of students
  • Plan and implement effective use of class time
  • Apply principles of teaching/learning to enhance student achievement
  • Utilize teaching methods that are appropriate for the objectives and learners
  • Communicate effectively with learners
  • Provide for and maintain student involvement during instruction
  • Promotes a smooth transition from one learning activity to another
  • Use the evaluation of student outcomes to measure the effectiveness of instruction
  • Communicate student progress to student and parent/guardian
  • Begins class promptly and continues with instruction until the end of the instructional period
  • Uses assessment data results to differentiate instruction in order to increase student achievement

  • Maintain necessary student records
  • Attend to tasks in an effective and organized manner
  • Establish and maintain clear expectations for appropriate behavior
  • Encourage students in participation and performance
  • Is respectful and supportive of students
  • Maintain a positive attitude with students
  • Consistently enforces the dress code and code of conduct
  • Maintain musical instruments and instructional materials in good working order

General

  • Accept and fulfill assigned responsibilities and duties in a prompt and efficient manner
  • Follow Board of Education policies, building procedures, and any other rules, regulations or

procedures that may be established by AVA administration or Governing Board

  • Provide an environment that promotes AVA’s character education including Capturing Kids Hearts
  • Employee will arrive and be prepared for the day – 7:30am – 4:00pm
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

 Student supervision during passing periods or after school as assigned by admin

Qualifications:

 Successful completion of student teaching

 Previous teaching experience in subject area and/or level desirable, but not necessary

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION

 Bachelor’s Degree

 Hold a current Colorado Teaching License/Authorization

 Hold appropriate endorsement(s) for Colorado Department of Education

 Meet all NCLB requirements

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. The hours may be long when specific needs arise, thus some extended

schedules will be necessary. This is a position that must attend the needs of staff, administrators, governing board and parents. AVA is a dynamic school subject to changing work environments and adaptability to change is

essential.

Salary:

$52,440-$75,240

  • All salary amounts listed above are based on a full-time (1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated according to the assigned FTE.
