The incumbent performs administrative, supervisory, and labor duties in providing custodial services for the Douglas County Justice Center.

Generally, the hiring range is $52,197-$65,246 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
- Supervises and performs work assigned to the custodial team.
- Determine schedules, sequences, and assignments for work activities, based on work priority, quantity of equipment, and skill of personnel.
- Performs a variety of janitorial work, including general cleaning, maintenance, furniture arranging, trash removal and room setup.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and replenishes supplies.
- Identifies and reports building repair / maintenance needs.
- Verifies proper operation, adjustment, and basic maintenance of mechanical custodial equipment and informs supervisor of any malfunctions.
- Orders, receives, stocks, and distributes supplies, materials, and equipment. Develops and maintains inventory control process.
- Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
- Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions; promotes teamwork.
- Provides instructions and guidance for all assigned tasks, coordinates work schedules, and approves timesheets.
- Mentor the development of the custodial staff to help expand their knowledge and understanding of proper building care and sanitation. Conducts and coordinates orientation, training, and ongoing education programs for staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Periodic supervision. Work is performed independently with direction and goals from Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : This position supervises and directs the activities of assigned staff; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination, or advancement of employees. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors progress; guides, trains, and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties and professional growth; evaluates performance.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT : Acts independently in most cases. Independent judgment is based on prior knowledge and experience to reach decisions within given guidelines. Must be able to discern when a situation requires higher level approval and direction.

WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Physical Work Environment : Work is performed primarily inside a facility with occasional work outdoors in all weather conditions. The Justice Center is a detentions facility, therefore some occasional contact with inmates and frequent contact with law enforcement will occur. Some hazardous situations may exist based on work to be performed. Can have daily, in-person contact with department employees, County staff, contracted staff, and the public.
Physical Demands : Work requires the ability to frequently lift and carry 50lbs. Work requires the ability to push and pull 100lbs. frequently. Also requires frequent bending, squatting, standing, climbing, kneeling, and walking. May be required to occasionally work in small, hard to reach spaces.
Material and Equipment Directly Used : Computer, cell phone, office equipment, motor vehicle, materials and equipment used in custodial maintenance, such as vacuums, mops, brooms, floor strippers, floor waxers, ladders, shampooing machines, and hand-held cleaning equipment. Operate a county vehicle.

In the event of an emergency / disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected / Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
