The Senior Network Engineer willbe responsible for performing complex network implementation, administrationand design activities on Douglas County's networks enabling a reliableCounty-wide network. They should alsopossess excellent problem-solving skills and thorough knowledge of networkadministration, network architecture and network security. This positionrequires an individual who can prioritize work efforts, resolve difficultproblems, and resolve issues related to complex network design, administration,and security. This position is also responsibleas a lead for developing and executing project plans and budgets for majoractivities, communicating status to users, working with developers to supportdevelopment efforts, and maintain the operational integrity of the environmentthrough appropriate change management and security related procedures.
Generally, the hiring range is $97,485-$121,856 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Key duties andresponsibilities of the Senior Network Engineer position include, but are notlimited to, the items listed below.
- Responsible for the overall architecture and integration of the Douglas County network including planning, design, installation, maintenance, management, and coordination of the local and wide area networks as well as specifying network configuration for desktop systems.
- Maintains expert level of technical expertise and supports engineering efforts in the technical analysis, review, test and evaluation of complex network systems, communications technologies, management systems, products, and services. Recommends alternatives to improve levels of performance, capability, service, or operating costs.
- Designs, develops and implements processes, procedures, and tools that provide on-going monitoring / diagnostics of all network communications systems, servers, and components to assure high-speed / reliable performance, ample bandwidth, internal / external security, and proactive troubleshooting to achieve maximum uptime meeting or exceeding the Douglas County network availability goal of 99.9%.
- Provides timely resolution and follow up to complex network problems, supports network administrators, telecommunication engineers and telecommunication analyst assignments.
- Provides advanced knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking, communications, hardware, and software.
- Provides information and recommendation related to the purchase, design, and installation of network hardware, software, and communications equipment. Develops project plans for the implementation of new network communications technologies and systems. Possesses purchasing authority to carry out networking plans.
- Establishes, writes, and implements formal network technical standards, diagrams, documentation, and operating procedures involving configurations and protocols.
- Analyzes, recommends, and implements complex solutions that provide redundancy and disaster recovery plans to maximize uptime in the event of hardware, software, or network component failure or catastrophe.
- Defines, implements, maintains, and monitors security protocols for Douglas County covering networks, systems, applications, and facilities to preserve the integrity of the Douglas County operational environment.
OTHER DUTIES : Researches, evaluates and recommends newsystems and operational related technologies that may be used by Douglas County,especially those that demonstrate the potential for economic savings, increasedproductivity, or improving service. Alsoperforms special projects and other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Position requires periodic supervisoryreview against departmental goals. It is expected that the individual would beautonomous in their work however they are expected to be accountable for theirresponsibilities and report to their manager.
SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES : This position maybe responsible as a technical lead for other staff members within the DouglasCounty Information Technology Department.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT : This position would require the criticalthinking and analysis skills that allow the ability to make decisions.
CONTACTS : Work involves frequent and on-goingprofessional contact at all levels, including management, end users, outsidevendors, and technical staff.

In the event of an emergency / disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected / Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
