The diversion program for juveniles in the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office offers an alternative to the criminal justice system to some offenders. Instead of the court system, the Juvenile Diversion Counseling Program uses therapeutic and case management interventions to promote accountability and address the underlying factors contributing to criminal and delinquent behaviors. Each person accepted into the program goes through a screening and assessment process to help guide the creation of an individualized treatment plan. Participants can make amends for their actions, gain insights into themselves and identify opportunities for self-improvement without the full weight of the justice system. In addition to helping participants, diversion helps victims and communities through programs that reduce future harm.
Diversion staff are masters-level therapists and experienced case managers. Our therapists are trained and licensed in such areas as professional counseling, couples and family therapy, experiential therapy, addictions counseling, offense-specific treatment, and EMDR. Our case managers have extensive experience working with community partners for resourcing clients.
The Therapist position provides a variety of professionalcounseling and case management services to aid in participants' successfulcompletion of the District Attorney's Office diversion program, which mayinclude : screening and assessment, individual, family, and group therapy forjuvenile offenders and their families, restorative justice practices,experiential therapies specific to juveniles, and maintaining client records bydocumenting all participant contacts and tracking progress. Depending oncredentials and experience, may work with special populations such as : juvenilesex offenders, substance users / abusers and clients impacted by trauma.
Generally, the hiring range is $70,000-$81,540 annually. Qualifications, education and experience as it relates to the position will be taken into consideration when determining hiring salary.

GENERAL DUTIES : (Thefollowing examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all-inclusive.Positions allocated to this class may not perform all of the duties listed.) :
- Provides direct therapy services such as : individual, family, couples, group and experiential counseling.
- Creates case and treatment notes in participant electronic files and completes all other required paperwork or documentation, maintains participant confidentiality, tracks participant progress and helps to determine program violations and successful completion.
- Participates in case staffing with theclinical and non-clinical diversion team for level of intervention.
- Collaborates with diversion team and program participants to create individualplans outlining program requirements and treatment goals.
- Formulates case conceptualization and case presentations to supervisors, co-workers and outside agencies.
- Responds to clients in crisis and makes referrals as needed.
- Works inconjunction with program participants to promote successful completion of theirindividualized program goals and / or treatment plans.
- Performs mental health intakes and the screening and assessment of clients.
- Determines frequency and modality of counseling services and / orsupervision needed.
- Consults with the Victim Advocate team andincorporates the victims' voice in participants' individual plan to ensure thatthe victims are made whole.
- Collaborates with program Case Managers.
- Providesand participates in restorative justice practices.
- Conducts multi-disciplinarymeetings.
- Helps families to understand educational options and coordinates withschools.
- Assists in the tracking and collection ofrestitution. Collects and reports various case-related statistics. Educatesclient and family regarding the justice system and consequences of furtherlegal involvement.
- May assist with data collection and reporting related togrant reports and applications.
- Attends mandatory staff meetings, various conferences andprofessional training seminars.
- Participates in on-going individualand / or group supervision with Director, Supervisor, peers and / or clinicalconsultant(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED / EXERCISED :
SCOPE OF INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS : Contacts are with superiors, clients, co-workers,attorneys, court officials, community treatment providers, other relatedagencies' personnel and the general public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT : Work is provided in a standard office environment, with the potential for a hybrid schedule based on team needs and individual circumstances. Opportunities to provide community service, experiential therapy, restorative justice and various other modalities may beincorporated.

In the event of an emergency / disaster in or near the County, all County employees are expected to make every effort to be available to assist the County Manager, Elected / Appointed Officials and Department Directors to ensure the continued operation of any and all necessary County functions. This may mean being available to perform additional duties and hours beyond what is normally required. In the event that an exempt employee does work more than 40 hours a week in support of County operations during an emergency, such employee may receive overtime or other appropriate wage compensation in accordance with existing County policies or at the discretion of the County.
