What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Laborer - Highway position at Douglas County (WI)?
The Douglas County Highway Department is seeking Seasonal Laborers for the upcoming summer season. This position will perform general highway maintenance and assigned laborer tasks involving the use of hand tools and operation of motorized equipment, including but not limited to traffic flagging, mowing with light-duty tractors, pothole patching, and general labor.
2025 starting rate $17.00/hr. *Returning Seasonal Laborers receive additional $1.00 to base wage until 3rd consecutive season.
Opportunities may exist for seasonal work from mid Spring to late Fall. This position works four days a week, ten hours a day. This position occasionally requires overtime work when requested. No benefits are offered with seasonal positions.
Testing requirements: Structured interview; Applicants must pass a physical exam and pre-employment drug screen.

Ability to effectively use hand tools. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work independently. Good physical condition necessary to perform job duties; including laboring, sometimes in extreme heat/adverse weather conditions and standing for long periods of time.
High School diploma or GED preferred (must be at least 18 years of age). Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record. Physically capable of working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and capable of lifting heavy loads.
