Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)

  • Reviews commercial and residential electrical construction documents for compliance with adopted codes.
  • Reviews electrical load calculations, circuit designs, and assesses appropriate fees. Performs data entry to create, approve, and issue electrical permits.
  • Indicates when changes, alternative methods of construction, or additional information is needed to meet the intent of the electrical code and contacts the appropriate parties.
  • Interpret and apply codes, regulations, and standards to complex and unique electrical design and construction scenarios.
  • Communicates and collaborates with other divisions, departments, jurisdictions, and metro districts to ensure that all parties involved have been notified and / or approve of the issuance of the building permit while fostering and maintaining professional relations with aforementioned organizations.
  • Answers questions for design professionals, contractors, and the public regarding electrical codes, permitting processes and general inspection procedures.
  • Consistently takes responsibility for ensuring that the process remains timely within the established division's expectations for turnaround and customer service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
  • Must have five years of related experience including three years of experience must be in electrical plans examination, inspection, or related field.
  • A combination of experience and education may be considered.
  • CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS :

    Two code certifications from the International Code Council (specifically the E1, E2, or E3 certifications) or trade related license (Colorado Journeyman or Master Electricians License).
