OVERVIEW
Position is responsible for the daily, routine cleaning of the Area 3 Shop in Mansfield. Most work is performed with minimal direct supervision. This position requires a minimum of 10 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Facilities maintenance and custodial duties including but not limited to daily carpet vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, sweeping and dust mopping all hard surface floors.
- Hand mop and wax linoleum floors, clean tile, counter tops, porcelain fixtures, mirrors, drinking fountains, stair railings, doors, walls, light covers, etc. according to an established cleaning schedule.
- Empty wastebaskets into plastic bags and properly dispose of them in outside receptacles.
- Dust in areas as directed, i.e., windowsills, heater vents, hallways, cabinet, counter tops, and baseboards, etc.
- Inform supervisor when cleaning supplies are in low or not performing up to acceptable standards.
- Assist with snow and ice removal on all sidewalks for buildings maintained by this position.
- Disinfects areas and fixtures with chemicals when necessary following guidelines for handling dangerous, hazardous, and / or infectious materials.
- Inform facilities manager of any lights out or problems that arise during your shift.
- Work includes minor plumbing tasks such as clearing or plunging toilets.
- Able to work on a ladder up to a height of twelve (12) feet.

- Basic principles and techniques for cleaning the interior of buildings.
- Carpet stain removal and spot cleaning.
- Follow written and verbal directions.
- Safe efficient use of cleaning supplies and chemicals used in facility maintenance.
- Safe operation and maintenance of equipment used in facility maintenance such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, sweepers, polishers, and all equipment necessary for cleaning of carpet and various hard surface floors.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, property owners, and the general public.
- Meet deadlines while maintaining flexibility necessary to accommodate any given situation.
- Exercise independent judgment when necessary.
- Effectively plan, coordinate and accomplish multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibility
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work is performed in an shop and field setting with extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, walking, climbing stairs, and lifting (up to 60 pounds waist high) in a variety of weather conditions.
- Climbing ladders and scaffolds to significant heights sometimes under adverse conditions.
- May work an alternative schedule at the sole discretion of the County.
- May be called in for emergencies, and asked to work occasional nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work with a variety of cleaning supplies, chemicals, and various solvent-based materials.
- Generally, works 3 evenings a week. A modified version of this schedules may apply to meet the needs of the position and the County.
- Work alone and independently most of the time.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER RECRUITING REQUIREMENTS
- Three years recent experience in facility custodial work, but the County may, at its discretion, consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
- A background security check is required if a job offer is made.
- A valid Washington State Driver’s License is required.
- Required to pass a physical examination and must be in overall good health.
- Drug and Alcohol testing required if job offer is made. Testing positive on either test may be considered grounds for disqualification from employment for this position.
- Ability to speak, write and comprehend Spanish is a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.66 - $18.66 per hour
