Description
DEFINITION OF WORK : This position is responsible for maintaining the signs and markings in unincorporated Douglas County.
This is work that involves a combination of skills for preparing, fabricating, installing and maintaining all county road traffic control devices, including traffic signs and roadway markings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : (The following examples are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive.)
PRIMARY DUTIES :
- Operates equipment including forklifts, pickups, and single axle trucks.
- Assists in the manufacturing, installation and maintenance of traffic control signs throughout unincorporated Douglas County in accordance with the latest version of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
- Assists with the installation of pavement markings throughout unincorporated Douglas County in accordance with the latest version of the MUTCD.
- Performs routine maintenance and operation of equipment.
- Performs snow removal and sand / de-icing material applications.
- Other Duties : Will perform other duties as assigned.
SECONDARY DUTIES :
SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Works under close supervision, often as part of a crew, on daily activities under the direction of the Traffic Services Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : This position does not supervise other employees.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT : This position is responsible for maintaining the signs and markings within the public right-of-way, as required by the MUTCD. The training and certifications are required to ensure proper interpretations of traffic engineering recommendations. Improperly operating or placed traffic control devices could result in potential serious safety liability for the county. Citizens rely upon the expertise to ensure their safety and to properly direct them. Without this direction, damage to property, bodily injury or death could occur. Employee awareness and education are vital to the employees' daily responsibilities to ensure citizen, personnel and property safety.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : A high school diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age.
