- General maintenance of garden, animal husbandry, fencing, and irrigation system.
- Develop lesson plans to include science-based learning activities, career exploration, and field trips to local community farms.
- Garden design and setup (light construction) to accommodate all students including ADA accessibility.
- Work closely with School Nutrition Services to bring school-grown food to the cafeteria.
- Oversee food safety requirements in the garden as set forth by the Department of Education.
- Acquire, transport, and deliver garden and animal supplies as necessary.
- Build community partnerships with local garden clubs.
- Manages current grants and seeks new grants for the program.
- Completion of Safe Schools training (available on-site)
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with school personnel, parents, students, and the public: works collaboratively as a team member.
- Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergency conditions.
- General knowledge of gardening, animal husbandry, and landscaping.
- Ability to successfully pass a drug test (random or otherwise)
- Use of tools and equipment, tractor, and mower in garden maintenance.
- Ability to communicate in non-technical terms with a diverse population of staff and students
- Regular and reliable attendance
- U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must successfully pass a criminal history background check and fingerprint screening
- A valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation
- Possess a two-year or four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
- Passion for garden-based education.
- Prior experience working within a educational setting and/or a youth-oriented organization
- Experience in working as a member or leader of a crew or a military unit
- Strong familiarity with small motors and power-tool equipment

- Vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Regularly required in an 8-hour day, to sit for 5-8 hours and to stand, walk, or move around for 1-4 hours

- Regularly lift, move or carry up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift, move or carry up to 50 pounds

Food and Farm Program Manager - Phoenix School of Roseburg03/21/2025
Phoenix School is recruiting a part-time manager to coordinate our Food and Farm Program for the spring season. Leadership and development of youth and coordination of farm and garden projects will be the primary focus of this position. The secondary focus is on the future growth and development of the program and financial sustainability through grant funding. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position serves as the main point of contact for many community partners and stakeholders.
Opening: Part-Time, February until late June
Application Period: Accepting applications until filled
Assignment: 20 hours per week, immediate flexible schedule 7:30-4:00pm
Wage: $24.06 to $32.74 per hour (DOE)
