Riddle School District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Special Education Director / Behavior Specialist to begin in the 2025-26 school year. This position is responsible for overseeing the district's special education programs while also providing direct support for student behavior interventions.

CLASSIFICATION AND SALARY

  • Competitive salary : $82,000 - $85,000 (commensurate on experience)
  • Work year : 210 days

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the district's special education programs comply with state and federal regulations (IDEA, Section 504, and Oregon Department of Education guidelines).
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet student needs.
  • Serve as the district liaison for special education audits, grants, and reporting.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development for special education staff.
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure best practices in special education instruction.
  • Assist in hiring, evaluating, and supporting special education personnel.
  • Work with parents, teachers, and community partners to support students with disabilities.
  • Facilitate IEP and 504 meetings, ensuring legal compliance and student-centered decision-making.
  • Advise district leadership on policies and procedures affecting special education services.
  • Develop and manage the special education budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Oversee procurement and utilization of special education materials, equipment, and assistive technology.
  • Assess student behavior needs and develop individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Support staff in implementing positive behavior strategies and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed.
  • Train and coach teachers and support staff on classroom management, de-escalation strategies, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Provide consultation for staff and families on behavior-related concerns.
  • Work closely with administrators, counselors, and special education teams to create a positive school climate.
  • Support students in developing social-emotional skills and coping strategies.
  • Participate in student support team meetings and contribute to multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) initiatives.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree or equivalent in the area of Special Education.
  • Valid Oregon administrative license (or ability to obtain one).
  • Experience in special education leadership, case management, and compliance with IDEA and 504.
  • Background in behavior intervention, including developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Training in trauma informed practices.
  • Background Check Conducted
