Job Summary

Responsible for the safety of children, families, and staff by ensuring proper maintenance and repair of all Douglass Community Services program facilities and vehicles.  Works with the Head Start Director to ensure all current and proposed facilities and vehicles comply with all state and federal laws, Head Start Performance Standards and state licensing mandates.  Performs and oversees general maintenance and repairs for Douglass Community Services and the Head Start program properties.   

 

Education and Skills

A high school diploma or GED equivalency is required.  Three to four years’ experience in building and fleet vehicle maintenance with demonstrated leadership experience in a relevant field.  Knowledge of OSHA requirements and daycare licensing is highly preferred. Current, valid driver's license and evidence of insurability to drive in the State of Missouri is required. Training in CPR and First Aid are required following hire.


Physical/Mental Demands:

Performs manual labor in both indoor and outdoor environments ranging from normal office conditions to extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, snow, cold and wind, dust, vibrations, noise, and exposure to fumes or unsanitary conditions. Occasional work in tight or confined spaces and high places. This position may require pushing/pulling/lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs., walking, climbing, kneeling, crawling, bending/stooping, sitting, standing for extended periods, driving, use of heavy equipment and prolonged visual concentration. Occasional projects that require a high degree of mental concentration. 


Essential Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision over the Facilities Assistant, including performance planning and review.  Under the direction of the Facilities Specialist ensure vehicles are “rotated” and “aged-out” as needed, and safety inspections, licensing and insurance are current.
  • Manages the ongoing maintenance and repair of program facilities and fleet vehicles utilizing local, community resources, volunteers, staff, and other resources.
  • Works with the management team to research, locate, and recommend maintenance supplies and services as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison between Head Start Management and contracted services providers and landlord to ensure needed repairs, and other concerns, are addressed and resolved.
  • Under supervisor’s direction, prepares proposal requests for construction, renovation and maintenance projects, and vehicle maintenance.
  • Assists with the development of facility projects, vehicle purchases, to include seeking bids and providing data.
  • Analyzes, reviews and prioritizes requests for repairs, maintenance, and large purchases (over $500) related to ongoing maintenance, renovations, facility projects and vehicles expenditures.
  • Ensures training is provided to all staff for full compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, Program  Plans, Personnel Policies and Procedures, Day Care Licensing, and other state regulations in relation to Transportation and Facilities including safety standards.
