DoveLewis Emergency and Specialty Animal Hospital is hiring a full-time Level 1 Veterinary Assistant to join our Radiology team.
As a Radiology Veterinary Assistant Level 1 is responsible for assisting the radiology department by providing support for animal restraint, cleanliness, and general flow maintenance within the department. A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.
Wage Range: $19.95-$22 hourly depending on experience, education, and certification.
Schedule: This position is anticipated to work Monday - Friday 8am to 4pm
What you'll do:
- Assist Radiologist and technician(s) as needed, e.g. help restrain animals for x-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, medication administration, treatments, catheter placement, blood draw, etc.
- Perform and assist with animal shavings and other procedural preparation as needed.
- Set up for procedures such as medication administering, radiology services, FNA's, biopsies, etc.
- Maintain clean and sterile work environment (refer to cleaning checklist for details).
- Clear ezyVet work list each day, making note of any missed radiographs.
- Stock radiology areas of hospital; ultrasound room, x-ray suites, CT room, etc.
- Perform non-qualitative lab work (e.g., Lasercyte, VetTest, VetLyte, PCV/TS, slide preparation, etc.) in relation to radiology patients.
- Take weight and TPR on animals as directed.
- Provide client service representatives with updates on patients' status; serve as point person for the radiology team as needed within the hospital.
- Assist technician(s) with entering charges for outpatient cases.
- Assist with transferring patients from floor to floor of the hospital.
- Assist with communications with rDVMs regarding outpatient radiographs
- Help troubleshoot radiology equipment when needed.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks or assigned projects as indicated.
What are we looking for in a candidate?
- A genuine love of and respect for all animals is required, as is an appreciation of the human-animal bond.
- Experience or education equivalent to a High School Diploma is required.
- Valid Oregon driver's license for driving the DoveLewis transport van is strongly preferred.
- Understanding of animal behavior and knowledge of safe animal handling and transport practices.
- 1 year experience working in animal care work such as at a veterinary clinic, kennel, shelter, grooming facility, or animal daycare is preferred for all positions and required for Veterinary Assistant Level 1.
- Any suitable combination of experience or education may substitute for the above.
