POSITION/TITLE: Assistant Superintendent
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a Master's degree, including training in Curriculum and/or Supervision.
- Superintendent Certificate of Eligibility or completion of certificate program within 6 months of hire.
- Experience - Evidence of successful teaching experience. Evidence of significant successful experience in curriculum development and supervision.
- Personally and professionally dependable, dedicated to the profession; ability to work with, and instill collaboration in others; has a broad knowledge of all recent trends in education; skillful in organizing workshops, and in-service programs.
- Demonstrates strong leadership ability.
SUPERVISES: All personnel in grant projects/programs, community education programs and other assigned personnel.
JOB GOAL:
The Assistant Superintendent, in the capacity of district instructional leader, is charged with the primary function of implementing, evaluating and improving curriculum, instruction, and assessment at all levels and in all areas of the school system for the primary purpose of improving student achievement. This position is responsible for planning, administering, evaluating and supervising all phases of the educational program in kindergarten through grade twelve. One of the most important ways in which he/she fosters curricular improvement is through the development of an educational program characterized by continuity between grade levels and an appropriate degree of coordination in the district-wide program. He/she serves as resource person, along with all administrators and teachers as they work to improve student achievement of all students. The Assistant Superintendent is expected to play a major, formal leadership role in improvement of educational programs in the Dover Area School District.
