Project Engineer
JOB SUMMARY :
The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and executing capital and expense projects in assigned plant areas to ensure proper design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The role will involve developing, controlling and executing a variety of projects across the site to improve capacity, reliability, and EHS performance. The Project Engineer will oversee and direct contractors on assigned projects and maintain proper documentation for regulatory compliance. Furthermore, the Project Engineer may also support operations and maintenance in the troubleshooting of existing equipment and resolution of process problems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Manages all aspects of capital project delivery from inception to turnover in accordance with accepted project management principles and internal practices.
Ensures the project work complies with established practices, policies, and processes; complies with all safety, health and environmental regulatory requirements. Utilizes safe work practices and follows directives, policies and procedures for assisting and maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.
In conjunction with project stakeholders, develop appropriate change management plans utilizing the site’s Management of Change workflows.
Develop and prepare project schedule, pre-planning and resource forecasting for engineering and other technical activities relating to the project.
Manage the performance of contractors and vendors.
Assure the accuracy of financial forecasts, which tie-in to project schedules.
Exercise judgment and leadership while approaching projects and ensure that the project deliverables align with long term site and corporate vision.
Identify engineering and technical problems and ensure solutions are implemented.
Liaise with third party suppliers to ensure all equipment is fit for purpose.
Ensure that projects are completed according to project plans.
Maintain control of project schedule and cost. Maintain accurate cost accounting and report cost and progress as required.
Responsible for coordination of all technical resources on assigned projects, including engineering staff, Operations Technology, and R&D.
Prepares and presents project status updates and briefings to project teams and leadership for purpose of communicating project(s) status, identifying issues and soliciting guidance for resolution.
REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Advanced degree a plus.
3-5 years of Plant Project Engineering experience in Chemical Process facilities (preferred) or related industry (i.e. petroleum, oil & gas, or pharmaceutical).
Experience managing projects up to $ 2,000,000 per project, from conceptual design to commissioning. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously is preferred.
Experience working in a union environment preferred but not required.
Knowledge of applied process chemistry, unit operations analysis, and material and energy balances.
Experience in chemical equipment design, specification, pricing / bidding, and selection.
Experience in both batch and continuous operations desirable.
Thorough understanding of Project Management methods and work processes, project budgeting and cost forecasting.
Knowledge of State / Federal EPA and OSHA compliance requirements.
Working knowledge of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) as well as common Engineering Codes and Standards in the chemical industry.
Six Sigma training a plus.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
The person performing the duties of this job generally works in the plant, warehouse, or R & D areas, and can potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather including but not limited
to rain, snow, cold, heat, etc., noisy environment, and potentially a dusty environment. The person performing the duties of this job may be required to work at high elevations or in small spaces.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
Must be able to work around hazardous chemicals and exposure to dust.
Ability to regularly work in and be exposed to outside weather elements (i.e. rain, snow, cold, heat).
Physical ability to regularly work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouch or squat, twist, stooping and standing.
Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
