What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adjustment Counselor 2025-26 SY position at Dover Sherborn Middle School?
Dover-Sherborn Middle School is seeking a skilled counselor to work in our social emotional programs that involve a therapeutic milieu where the children are explicitly taught skills to manage their challenges.
Our Programs serve students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who present with social-emotional challenges that impact their ability to learn and progress effectively within the general education environment. Students typically experience anxiety, preoccupations, decreased self-regulation and/or lack of coping skills. The large group environment of a typical classroom may be overwhelming and render the children unable to process the psychosocial and academic demands as they surface in the course of a traditional school day.
Our Social Emotional Programs provide a milieu where the children are explicitly taught skills and strategies to manage their challenges. The program offers a safe and supportive environment that engages children in social skill development, emotional regulation, and high academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide small group and individual counseling support to students
• Consult and collaborate with the program staff, general education teachers, administrators and parents to support the success of the students
• Utilize evidence-based research to develop and/or provide effective social-emotional interventions and supports
• Implement behavior systems and social-emotional strategies and techniques
• Contribute to student evaluations and assessment, progress monitoring, data collection, IEP development and progress reporting
• Work collaboratively with academic support teacher, BCBA, and program staff to ensure continuity of intervention across the day
