The Dover Union Free School District is seeking applications for a Teaching Assistant at the elementary level. Must have a valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
The following is indicative of the level and types of activities performed by incumbents in this title. It is not meant to be all-inclusive and does not preclude a supervisor from assigning activities not listed, which could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. New York State Education Certified.
2. College credit required for position.
3. Interpersonal skills that always reflect a positive tone and work relationship with students.
4. Competence in using technology and software to help student learning.
5. Satisfies New York State Education Department requirement.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Implements plans and activities, as directed.
2. Present segments of lessons as directed.
3. Prepares educational materials and resources.
4. Oversees students in instructional activities or related areas.
5. Maintains classroom materials, student files, and confidential records, etc. (e.g. adapting instructional materials, checking papers, attendance, set up adapted projects, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing reliable information.
6. Watches students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, trips, PE, special events, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
7. Implements behavioral plans designed by IEP teams for students with behavioral disorders or other conditions for the purpose of assisting in meeting special education students’ needs and providing a consistent environment.
8. Confers with teacher/s (special education and/or mainstream teacher) on a regular basis for the purpose of assisting in evaluating special education student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
9. Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g. first aid, CPR, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective function of the school.
