Position Summary: The Superintendent schedules, coordinates and supervises craft employee activities on heavy civil excavation construction projects. May involve supervising one or more trade groups. The Superintendent will be responsible for achieving optimum utilization of the equipment, material, and labor, thus, maximizing production and minimizing costs in the area of assigned responsibility. All of this is to be accomplished in conjunction with practicing ethical business transactions, adhering to the corporate policies, values and beliefs while pursuing the company's short- and long-range goals. An in-depth knowledge of all contractual requirements, plans, and specifications will be required. Must understand all quality requirements and be able to ensure crews are trained to perform high quality work. The Superintendent will be responsible for developing a high performing team that works cooperatively with all owner and subcontractors' representatives during the production. Super will have worked at all ranks and can move up and down in responsibilities and can run equipment yourself
Responsibilities:
- Plan and supervise grading activities - includes determining method of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedule and documenting actual hours worked.
- Coordinate assigned work with different trades company departments, or other contractors.
- Maintain liaison with engineering, estimating, and planning to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications, and schedule.
- Assist in resolving construction problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.) as required.
- Monitor craft compliance with project safety program and environment requirements; document and ensure corrective measures are implemented.
- Coordinate material and equipment needs for projects.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental requirements.
- Communicating with PM's and Estimator on opportunities
- Maintain an insurable driving record.
Qualifications:
- Combination of technical training and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in the construction industry.
- Experienced in construction scheduling, cost control, technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures required.
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Skilled in assuming responsibility and reaching deadlines.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Quickbooks
- Familiar and experienced with all types of grading equipment including rollers, water trucks,, loaders, skids and backhoes.
- Experienced with stockpile management, rough grading, pond building, channel and diversion dikes, sediment ponds, rip rap placement, topsoil placement, VTCs.
