Golf Course Seasonal Maintenance - Greenskeeper
The Downers Grove Park District is looking for a Golf Course Seasonal Maintenance - Greenskeeper at our Belmont Golf Club. This staff member is responsible for maintaining the health, playability, and appearance of the golf course turf.
Pay rate: $19 per hour.
Benefits: This position is IMRF eligible.
Free membership to 4500 Fitness.
Hours: 35 – 40 hours per week including one weekend day. Position ends mid-November.
- Performs labor in connection with maintenance, construction, and development of golf course turf, buildings, structures, paths, parking lots, landscaping, and special areas.
- Operates District or rented equipment for turf cutting and maintenance, land clearing, grading, tilling, ditch digging, material support, and other tasks requiring equipment.
- Operates and maintains small power tools.
- Duties include daily maintenance of the golf course including mowing greens, trees, fairways, and general landscape work.
- Basic maintenance of clubhouse and maintenance facility.
- Repairs golf equipment.
- Follows safety guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
- Experience in turf maintenance - at least 1 -2 years of experience in maintaining golf course turf, sports fields, or similar high-maintenance grass
- Proficient in operating walk-behind green mowers, riding fairway mowers, and rough mowers without scalping or damaging turf
- Ability to mow with precise overlap, following mowing patterns, and adjust height of cut properly
- Experience with aerators, topdressers, sprayers, and irrigation system preferred
- Awareness of how improper mowing (scalping, dull blades, wrong direction) impacts turf health
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, work early mornings, weekends, and in various weather conditions
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Prior work at a golf course in a turf maintenance position or other turf facility
- Knowledge of turf diseases, pests, and fertilization practices
- Experience maintaining sand bunders, repairing divots, and rolling greens
- Ability to perform basic maintenance on mowers (blade sharpening, cleaning)
