What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Supervisor position at Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium?
SUMMARY:
Assist the Executive Director in the daily operations of all programs offered by the DARC. Helps to plan, administer, and coordinate a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation programs for all ages, including some special events, summer camps, athletic and fitness programs, health and wellness programs, adult and youth dance programs, as well as overseeing adult softball, basketball, and related sports leagues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Position will play an integral role in the development and delivery of programs and activities in the community and family special events, recreation, and out-of-school programs.
- Ensures or conducts computer data entry and generates reports as required in recreational software. In addition to completing administrative tasks.
- Interacts with customers, students, parents, and instructors to provide exceptional service, receiving complaints, suggestions, and questions; provides information and assistance as requested.
- Develops, plans, and supervises the implementation of recreational and athletic programs and community events.
- Responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising, part-time and seasonal employees, ensuring program delivery and high-quality service.
- Implements and manages special event programming, ensuring coordination with vendors/groups involved with the events.
- Maintains inventory, prepares supplies for events, and orders supplies and equipment for scheduled programs.
- Prepares and maintains records, reports, and schedules for programs, events, and staff. In addition, will be responsible for preparing materials for grant proposals, purchase orders, and press releases.
- Monitors and updates the Department’s social media and website pages and explores other advertising methods to enhance programs’ marketing efforts.
- Preform site inspections and program visitations to ensure quality of program and safety of participants during activities; monitors program or event participants to ensure orderly conduct, intervening as necessary following all established policies and procedures.
- Must be able to set up sports fields for recreational leagues.
- Works with community partners; collaborates with community organizations and local businesses to ensure that events meet the needs and expectations of the community.
- Solicits sponsors for programs and events for various recreation needs and to offset costs of recreation events; contributes to preparing grant applications.
- Develops and prepares promotional materials for the programs (IE: brochures, designs flyers, etc.)
- Coordinates volunteer activities, ensuring proper training & background checks are completed, and ensures effective utilization of volunteers.
- Monitors and evaluates programs for effectiveness, making recommendation/adjustments as needed, while meeting community needs.
- Makes recommendations to the Executive Director in preparing and administering of the annual budget.
- Complies with all Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium Policies and Procedures.
- Performs other duties or projects assigned by the management team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Working knowledge of the principles, practices, and modern methods of recreation program development and administration and public community recreation operations.
- Must have a valid PA driver’s license.
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in recreation, physical education, or related field, required.
- Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and early mornings, occasionally, when required, to meet the needs of the recreation programs and meetings.
- Must have exceptional skills in customer service, communications, and problem solving (Oral & Written).
- Must be able to effectively maintain relationships with staff and public of all ages.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in recreation, athletics, training, public parks management, or related work.
- Experience in working with school-age children, i.e., scouting, coaching, after-school sports, etc., preferred.
- Some supervisory experience, preferred.
- Experience with and/or participation in a variety of recreational activities, preferred.
- Knowledge, coordination and administration of summer camp programs, preferred
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload efficiently.
- Ability to understand program budgets and stay within guidelines.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)
- Must have knowledge of recreation software. MyRec experience is a plus.
- Ability to travel between recreation program sites, parks and various locations within and outside the DARC service area.
- Ability to understand, follow, and explain standard procedures in the organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the job, including hands-on physical work, frequently using computer & office equipment, recreational equipment, and supervise attendees at recreation events, both indoors and outdoors. This includes frequently walking, standing, sitting, listening, reaching to operate equipment and completing required paperwork. In addition, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
Must be able to obtain the following upon hire:
- Act 34 Clearance (FBI Check), required.
- PA Criminal Background Check, required.
- PA Child Abuse Clearance, required.
- Credit Check Report, required.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid, (or obtained within first three (3) months of hire), required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
