Position: ESY Behavior Mentor (Open to Internal DASD Applicants Only)
Locations: Shamona Creek Elementary, Marsh Creek Sixth Grade Center, Downingtown High School West
Pay Rate: $38 per hour AND $500 retention bonus (retention pay requires mandatory participation in orientation and attendance 15/19 days in program)
Schedule: Up to 5 hours per day, Monday - Thursday (please see below for more information)

- Staff hours begin 30 minutes prior to student hours and extend 30 minutes past student hours (e.g. 8:30 AM - 1 PM; 7 AM - 12 PM)

- We ask staff to be flexible regarding work hours and building location
Teachers: $38 per hour plus $500 retention bonus

Qualifications
- Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position.
- BCBA certification strongly preferred, but not required
- Demonstrate knowledge in the area of assignment.
- Possess a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, service to the district, and importance and purpose of education programs.
- The employee in this position could be required as part of his or her duties to engage in activities that can be charged to a Medical Assistance or other state or federal healthcare program. Clearance as provider under such programs by both the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the federal government is therefore an essential qualification for this position.
- Proficiency in use of technology for individual or group demonstration or communication.
- Must be able to flex and vary hours to accommodate needs of students, parents, and other teachers.
- Possesses effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and outside organizations.
- Exhibits excellent classroom management skills.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills to provide accurate information to others and to obtain, give, and follow directions.
- Demonstrates ability to provide good judgment, planning, and human relations skills, as well as be required to work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility.

- Candidate must adhere to all local, state, federal, and school code requirements for employment.
- Assist staff in: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing, and identifying antecedents.
- Mentor and guide IEP teams in implementation process of Behavior Intervention Plans; address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical issues; School-wide Positive Behavioral Support; and factors that affect effectiveness including social validity and treatment integrity.
- Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions.
- Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which “at risk” students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit, intensive, accelerated and provides ample practice.
- Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress.
- Model good assessment processes that assist students in assessing their own work and behavior.
- Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that targets research, strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classrooms.
- Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations.
- Serve as a consultant to administrators, teachers, and parents.
- Provide resources and support to special education teachers in goal writing and data collection as it pertains to behavior.
