Job description
The Resource Navigator will work in partnership with Career Specialist and other Detroit at Work (DAW) staff to support jobseekers in navigating and connecting to essential services required to remove barriers. These can include transportation, childcare, housing, legal aid, adult basic education, or expungement supports. The Resource Navigator will become an expert in understanding their Career Centers various partners and the support they offer, including eligibility and referral process. They will also understand and follow DAW’s supportive services policies that can be used for basic customers.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Assist customers to identify the best community resources available to meet their needs and support referrals to those supports (including, warm-handoffs to the partner organizations).
· Develop relationships with organizations that provide barrier removal/essential services that are in proximity to the career center.
· Keep information on partner organizations updated by making routine contact to verify services and eligibility requirements.
· Provide updates to staff and managers regarding the status of barrier resolution.
· Identify gaps within referral partner network and work to identify potential partners.
· Advocate for and link customers to community services and assist in assessing available support services.
· Follow-up with customers and partner organizations on status of barrier resolution/referral resolution.
· Support use of the Resource Map within their Center (launching July 2021), including training staff on its use, keeping information accurate and sharing information with customers.
· Process supportive service requests in accordance with regulations and policies for Manager approval.
· May attend Orientations, Workshops, or other special events to increase knowledge of programs and services and promote Resource Navigator services.
· Conducts community outreach with partner agencies.
· Represents DAW at resource events, worker orientations and fairs to connect with partners and job seekers.
· Will assist their team with engaging job seekers and supporting their success.
· Completes data entry in Launchpad, OSMIS and any other required database / systems.
· Learns specifics about eligibility and program services; uses the Program Management Information Guide along with other official directives on program requirements and services.
· Train as a Navigator in the MI Bridges system.
· Other duties as needed/required.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Minimal qualifications required for this position include:
· Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Service, Social Services is preferred but can be substituted at a ratio of one (1) years of experience for one (1) year of college beyond a minimum of a High School Diploma.
· One (1) years’ experience in education, social services, workforce development services, or other related experience is required.
· The proven ability to articulate thoughts clearly on paper with proper grammar, punctuation, and the ability to apply language rules. Excellent public speaking skills.
· Required to possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to foster and maintain professional, friendly relationships with all staff, employers, and program administrators and partners.
· Demonstrated proficiency in operating computerized software including Microsoft Word, Power Point, and Excel. Ability to maintain accurate information to produce timely reportsand meet performance standards.
· Excellent written and spoken communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with diverse employers and customer base.
