Position Overview: The Downtown Athletic Club in Eugene, OR, is seeking a passionate and experienced Swim Instructor to join our aquatic team. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a friendly and personable demeanor, and a genuine enthusiasm for teaching children and individuals of all ages how to swim. The Swim Instructor will provide engaging and effective swim lessons while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct high-quality swim lessons for individuals and small groups of various age groups and skill levels.
- Create and implement lesson plans that align with the swim program's objectives and provide a positive learning experience.
- Foster a safe and supportive environment to build participants' confidence and skills in the water.
- Demonstrate proper swimming techniques and ensure participants are progressing appropriately.
- Communicate effectively with participants and their parents/guardians, providing feedback on progress and areas for improvement.
- Enforce pool rules and safety protocols to maintain a secure swimming environment for all participants.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest teaching methodologies and best practices in swim instruction.
- Assist with other aquatic programs as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding, swim team coaching, or water polo instruction is strongly preferred.
- Formal swim lesson training from recognized programs such as the Starfish Swim Program is required.
- CPR certification, including infant/child CPR, is mandatory.
- Lifeguard certification is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with children and adults in a positive and engaging manner.
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear instructions and feedback to participants and their families.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate various learning styles and skill levels.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to maintaining a consistent teaching schedule.
- Flexibility to work during the specified hours: Monday through Friday from 2pm to 7pm, and Saturday/Sunday from 10am to 7pm.
- Availability for 3-hour blocks of time, 4-5 days a week within the mentioned timeframe.
