General Manager Job Description:
The Downtown Athletic Club is seeking an energetic and dynamic individual to lead its fitness operations in Amarillo, Texas. The General Manager will promote a professional and welcoming atmosphere while ensuring our members receive the highest quality fitness experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day club operations, including staffing, member retention, facility maintenance, equipment upkeep, and cleanliness standards. * Proactively recruit, interview, hire, and train talented team members * Provide leadership to the team, setting clear objectives, delegating responsibilities, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. * Positively impact the lives of our members by fostering a sense of community and belonging that encourages them to continue pursuing their fitness goals. * Develop and implement strategies to drive membership growth * Ensure the facility meets standards for cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and security * Build relationships within the local community, representing the gym at events, and implementing outreach initiatives to attract new members. * Develop and execute retention strategies, such as member engagement programs, events, and incentives. * Resolve customer complaints in an expeditious and tactful manner
Financial Responsibilities
- Exhibit an understanding of revenue, budgets and payroll expenses * Establish controls of expenses and purchasing supplies. * Assist in the processing, submission, and approval ofmember billing, invoices, payroll, and Point of Sale reports
Qualifications
- Previous management experience supervising employees inthe broader retail, service, hospitality or fitness industry * Demonstrate an understanding of expense management with the ability to articulate variances in revenue/sales/expenses versus budget. * Excellent oral communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. * Ability to create a high-performance culture through people development, innovation, and collaboration within your team.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Exercise Science or any related field. * Additional certifications in personal training or related fields. * Active involvement in the fitness community through professional associations or networking events
Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). * Experience with and familiarity with Point of Sale software (preferred). * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to interact effectively with team members and customers.
