Summary

DWC is seeking a full-time Clinician - Mental Health to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed clinical services to women and gender-diverse individuals in the context of our Trauma Recovery Center program. The Clinician - Mental Health will engage women in biopsychosocial assessment & treatment planning, and will provide crisis intervention and de-escalation, individual & group therapy, clinical case management, and consultation to a multi-disciplinary team. This role is a member of the Clinical Department and reports directly to the Clinical Program Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Provide trauma informed, culturally responsive therapeutic services to participants, including individual and group therapy and crisis intervention
  • Carry a caseload of 15-20 therapy clients and provide brief, evidence-based treatment to survivors of violent crime
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and engage participants in establishing goals for mental health treatment and recovery
  • Provide effective crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation, including risk assessment, safety planning and follow-up interventions as needed
  • Identify and provide needed resources and referrals to survivors of violent crime, including housing-related assistance, basic needs support, medical and mental health services, substance abuse treatment, vocational support, and public benefits including SSI as needed
  • Work to effectively meet clients' needs and resolve individual barriers through follow-up, advocacy, and collaboration with DWC staff and other community service providers.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with participants, staff and community providers
  • Assist staff with clinical consultation, care coordination and coaching around clinical interventions and de-escalation techniques as needed
  • Comply with local, state, and federal laws and regulations around confidentiality and mandated reporting
  • Maintain accurate and timely records per contract and DWC Documentation Policy, including required Trauma Recovery Center and ACCESS Center program paperwork, mental health and case management progress notes, incident reports, and documentation of services provided to each client
  • Provide regular, written reports to the Clinical Program Manager and additional reports as assigned
  • Provide clinical consultation and trainings to staff across departments as needed
  • Participate in individual and group supervision, multidisciplinary team meetings, and required trainings
  • Act as supervisor or preceptor to clinical interns, as appropriate
  • Provide weekly individual and group intern supervision as needed, and review intern clinical documentation and provide necessary feedback
  • Serve as an ambassador of DWC and its mission and values by participating in community meetings / collaboratives / events
  • Other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization

    This position does not have direct reports. This position may require offering support and clinical guidance to Master's level student interns.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday- Friday 8 : 00 AM- 4 : 30 PM.

    Travel

    Regular travel throughout Los Angeles County is required in this position.

    Remote

    Expectation to be able to work onsite full-time as scheduled, with possibility of some remote work.

    Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work
  • Current BBS registration in the State of California required
  • Experience working in social services; homeless services experience strongly preferred
  • Experience providing trauma-informed care preferred
  • Crisis intervention experience, and familiarity and comfort working with issues related to homelessness, substance use, mental health diagnosis, and history of trauma required
  • Knowledge and training in EBPs (i.e. Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, CBT, DBT, Trauma-Informed Care) preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with clinical assessment, treatment planning and diagnosis required
  • Knowledge of local resources available to individuals experiencing homelessness preferred
  • Excellent active listening and crisis intervention skills with ability to exercise and model good judgment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; proven ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, including proficiency in balancing direct service responsibilities and record-keeping
  • Ability to solve problems by being resourceful and using creativity

  • Oral and written fluency in English required; Spanish a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) required
  • Must be a CA resident and live at least 80 miles from DWC; must be available for in-person meetings at DWC.
  • Must provide documentation of a negative TB test result within the last twelve months, on first day of hire.
  • You will be required to be up to date on your vaccinations against COVID-19 and provide documentation. If you are fully vaccinated and not yet eligible to receive a booster dose, then you must receive the booster dose within 30 days of becoming eligible and eligibility begins 5 months after receiving the final primary dose. If you are fully vaccinated and have received a booster dose, you are considered up to date with your vaccinations. Unvaccinated individuals must receive their 1st dose before their first day of hire. Partially vaccinated (for 2-dose series) individuals must receive their 2nd dose within 30 days of being hired. The second dose of a two-dose vaccine series is due 4 weeks after the primary dose.
