Purpose of Job
Leads and directs all health and safety efforts at the Palmyra, Missouri facilities.  Maintains and monitors compliance, identifies, manages, directs and audits the systems required to limit risk factors leading to health and safety mishaps, as well as compliance violations, job-related injury or illness, and property damage.  Supports the creation of proactive health and safety strategies to ensure robust procedures and programs while ensuring compliance related activities are maintained.
 
Role and Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute Health and Safety programs for all Manufacturing sites and Doyle Farm operation, meeting health and safety laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for new employee onboarding for health and safety training, working in conjunction with Human Resources. 
  • Prepares and enforces policies establishing a company culture of health and safety.
  • Oversees Lockout / Tag Out (LOTO) procedures and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) updates.
  • Oversees training and conducting safety audits to ensure compliance to Safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintains inspection programs for forklifts, cranes, emergency equipment, etc.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities on a regular basis to assess risk and conformance with OSHA standards.
  • Monitor changes and additions to OSHA requirements.
  • Leads and/or coordinates, as required, safety incident investigations at the site using proven investigation techniques.  Conducts follow up audits to ensure that corrective actions are taken following an environmental or safety incident. 
  • Handle workers’ compensation claims in the event of a workplace accident, with a goal to improve workers’ compensation rates annually.
  • Ensures that the site has a written Disaster Recovery and Crisis Communication plan that enhances the company's relations with workers, customers, community, media, and the public. Leads, coordinates, or participates in periodic drills. When called upon, directs crisis communication activities with the assistance of plant management and communications professionals.
  • Suggest solutions, improvements, and preventive steps for safety issues.
  • Attends monthly Quincy Area Safety Council Meetings.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual recordkeeping including safety performance metrics.  Assists in developing additional proactive metrics as required for continual improvement.
  • Manages and directs activities from consultants and contractors and ensures all company safety policies and protocols are followed.
  • Partner with engineering functions to ensure process changes are effectively managed and do not introduce hazards to the work environment.
  • Will lead and direct the site safety committee.
  • Assists with duties that management deems necessary for the benefit of the work force and company objectives.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in accredited Safety or a related field or five (5) years of experience in an EHS-related field is required.
  • Considerable knowledge of Federal OSHA, State, and local regulations in general industry and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of safety management systems and/or ERP Systems
  • Ability to learn new skills, technology, and equipment as industry changes.
  • CPR/First AID certification, and OSHA 30 Hour
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards for Industrial Safety.
  • Prefer at least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • A strong collaborator with Critical thinking skills and strong attention to detail are paramount in this role.
  • Clear and effective communication skills with proficiency in the English language, reading, writing, and speaking fluently.
  • Strong computer experience using Microsoft Office including Excel spreadsheets.
  • Excellent data collection and analysis skills with a proven ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, schedules and detailed action plans.
  • Strong organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management.
  • Ability to work well in teams and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in data analysis and performance metrics.
  • Preferred Skills
  • Root Cause and Corrective Action training and implementation.
  • Safety Auditor training.
  • Ability to conduct interviews and document steps for the creation of procedures, work instructions, etc.
  • Ability to train others on various safety subjects.
  • Ability to multi-task on projects and document progress.
