This position offers aspiring legal professionals the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a collegial corporate environment. The Legal Intern or Extern will work closely with in-house counsel as assigned to conduct legal research, create drafts, participate in document and discovery review, and other projects. The successful candidate is anticipated to attend internal planning discussions, trainings, and presentations. Note: This position may be filled as either a Legal Intern (paid without academic credit) or Legal Extern (for academic credit, whether paid or unpaid) dependent on the specific circumstances of the successful applicant. Work must be 100% undertaken and completed within the State of Alaska (whether in-person, hybrid, or fully remote) for any paid intern or extern position.
Starting Hourly Range: $36.71 - $37.93.
This position can be in-person, hybrid, or fully remote, but the employee must be based in Alaska.
What you will do
- Draft comprehensive legal subject matter memoranda.
- Conduct legal research.
- Analyze and summarize relevant materials.
- Take detailed notes during meetings.
- Assist in discovery and hearing or ADR preparations.
- Participate in team meetings.
- Draft correspondence and legal documents.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in any subject area. Required
- Completion of at least the first year of law school studies (1L) at an ABA accredited law school, with current/ongoing enrollment (transcript required). Required
- Completion of coursework in excess of one year (2L, 3L) at an ABA accredited law school, with current/ongoing enrollment (transcript required) Preferred
- Completion with passing grades of C or higher in: Contracts, Property, Legal Research and Writing (transcript required). Required
- Completion with passing grade(s) of C or higher in: Administrative, Employment, and/or Environmental Law (transcript required). Preferred
- 1 year Work in a professional office setting. Required
- 1 year Prior experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or government agency in any capacity Preferred
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Medium proficiency)
- .Excellent verbal and written communication skills (High proficiency)
- Skilled in organizing work materials and time. (Medium proficiency)
- Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy. (High proficiency)
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality (High proficiency)
- Familiarity with legal research tools including Westlaw. (Medium proficiency)

- Basic understanding of legal terminology and principles. (High proficiency)
