The Senior Database Administrator - PostgreSQL will be instrumental in maintaining the stability, security, and optimal performance of critical databases. Their ability to collaborate with the DBA team and other IT departments will contribute significantly to the success of IT projects and the overall efficiency of DP World’s database environment.

Key Accountabilities

• Support the DP World database infrastructure as directed by the DBA Manager
• Work closely with Infrastructure, Application and Development teams on projects, migrations, upgrades, tuning, architecture, code management and other activities
• Ensure systems maintenance, support, installations, upgrades, performance monitoring and storage administration is carried out with minimum disruption to the operations team
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of PostgreSQL database configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps; foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement by sharing your expertise and knowledge within the DBA team
• Ensure timely application of PostgreSQL database patches, updates, and bug fixes to maintain up-to-date and secure systems
• Engage in training and educational opportunities to enhance your PostgreSQL database administration skills; stay informed about the latest features, best practices, and trends in these database technologies
• Assess current and projected database performance then recommend and perform changes and enhancements
• Ensure maximum availability of database systems and minimum disruption due to change - planned or otherwise
• Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota
• Maintain knowledge of trends, developments, and best practices in database and related technology
• Evaluate and recommend new database technologies
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications, Experience And Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related field required
• At least five years of related experience required OR a combination of equivalent professional training and certifications may be accepted
• Strong experience in managing PostgreSQL environments on Linux. Including Postgres Advanced Server, Replication, TDE, Point in time recovery, PEM setup and configuration
• Experience with Oracle, Progress and Microsoft SQL Server is a bonus
• Strong technical background with proven analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience working in environments that include Windows, Red Hat Linux, Azure and other cloud technologies
• Experience working with programming languages (e.g. PowerShell, Ansible, Python, R, Perl, Java, Bash) for general purpose programming e.g. accessing APIs, automating processes, manipulating data and prediction
• Experience following change management, change control processes and problem management
• Thorough understanding of file structures and design, information retrieval techniques, file access methods, and database controls and standards
• Highly organized and able to work to a deadline; requires the ability to manage multiple project requests at the same time and engage team members on a technical level, while effectively communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical people
• Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and manage risk for critical business systems
• Ability to write, present and explain complex concepts to non-technical people with a clear, transparent and open approach to communicating your ideas
• Demonstrated ability to provide timely technical support for internal and external stakeholders and customers
• Strong documentation skills and experience in establishing processes and procedures while developing process improvements
