This position works 40 hours a week, from 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday.
- Construct, alter, and repair adaptive equipment, including power/manual wheelchairs, positioning devices, ADL equipment, transportation aides, and mobility devices, utilizing a diverse range of materials and specialized machinery.
- Adhere to precise specifications and follow written/verbal instructions to perform repairs, maintenance, cleaning, and alterations on adaptive/mobility equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
- Collaborate closely with therapists and equipment specialists to precisely fit and adjust adaptive equipment to meet individual patient requirements, enhancing their overall comfort and mobility.
- Communicate clear and concise instructions to patients on the proper usage and handling of adaptive/mobility equipment, enabling them to effectively integrate these tools into their daily lives.
- Conduct routine maintenance, preventive upkeep, and thorough cleaning of all adaptive/mobility equipment to sustain their longevity and performance, ensuring a consistent standard of quality.
- Maintain a meticulously organized and sanitary workspace, as well as manage equipment and supplies, to facilitate efficient operations and uphold a professional environment.
- Participate in staff meetings, in-service trainings, and off-site professional development workshops as directed, fostering ongoing skill enhancement and knowledge growth.
- Engage with a diverse array of tools and techniques, including welding equipment, grinding wheels, forges, shoe repair machines, riveting machines, drills, and hand tools, to meticulously craft and repair adaptive equipment.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of adaptive equipment designs and processes through thoughtful innovation and problem-solving, aligning with the hospital's commitment to advancing patient care.
- Foster a strong commitment to patient well-being and maintain a high standard of ethical conduct, professionalism, and empathy in interactions with patients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the methods, tools, equipment, and materials employed in fabricating, altering, and repairing adaptive equipment.
- Strong grasp of techniques utilized in measuring and fitting patients for adaptive equipment.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills for innovative equipment modifications.
- Demonstrated ability in utilizing tools, equipment, and materials for fabricating, altering, and repairing adaptive equipment, encompassing measuring instruments and devices like calipers, tape measures, and rulers.
- Capacity to lift, pull, push, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Knowledge of materials commonly used in adaptive equipment construction.
- Previous experience in constructing, modifying, or repairing mobility aids or adaptive devices.
- Excellent communication abilities to interact effectively with patients, therapists, and colleagues.
- Detail-oriented approach to ensure accurate fitting and adjustments of adaptive equipment.
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting, particularly with patient care and safety considerations.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of adaptive equipment technology.
- Proficient usage of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook.

Tewksbury Hospital operates a 375-bed facility and a campus of over 700 acres of land. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the administration of a Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
