Pre-Op / Post-Op Nurse (part-time) Job Description
Location: Jeffersonville, IN, 47130
Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge
- Knowledgeable in patient and guest relations
- Ability to interact professionally with physicians and co-workers
- Basic EKG monitoring and proficient in patient assessment skills
- Proficient in IV placements and knowledgeable in medications
- Knowledgeable of patient care planning and legalities
Duties:
- Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, proper techniques, and facility policies
- Train in all areas of pre and post-surgical care of patients
- Open/close work area per protocol daily
- Admit and discharge patients using a primary care model
- Introduce self to patients using appropriate volume and tone of voice
- Coordinate patient care to ensure a safe and comfortable experience
- Review patients’ medical records and maintain continuity among nursing staff and physicians
- Accurately document patient care services in the medical record
- Establish personal rapport with patients and their families/significant others
- Promote patient independence by establishing care goals and educating patients and families
- Resolve patient problems and needs using multidisciplinary team strategies
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
- Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements
- Maintain nursing supplies inventory and verify receipt of supplies
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies
- Maintain cooperative relationships among healthcare teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods
- Interact professionally with physicians, patients, families, and others
- Utilize initiative and strive to maintain a steady level of productivity
- Use telephone politely and communicate information to appropriate personnel
- Accurately and timely record the narcotic logbook and other log books
- Audit charts at the end of the shift (excluding own primary care patient charts)
- Comply with OSHA, HIPAA, and CLIA regulations
- Follow and promote the facility mission, vision, values, and guiding principles
- Complete post-op phone calls in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as needed
Professional Requirements:
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
- Adhere to dress code; appearance must be neat and clean
- Follow AORN standards
- Maintain a neat and clean work area
- Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated times
- Attend staff meetings annually; read and sign staff meeting notes if absent
- Represent the organization positively and professionally
- Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility
- Complete mandatory annual education as scheduled and in a timely fashion
- Wear identification while on duty; use computerized clock system correctly
Regulatory Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current state license
- Postoperative or critical care experience preferred
- Ophthalmic surgery experience desirable
- Certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiopulmonary Life Support
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Operate in a professional office environment
- Regularly required to talk or hear and communicate with customers
- Frequently required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently access all areas of the building
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate
