What are the responsibilities and job description for the Planer Feeder position at DR Johnson Lumber?
POSITION SUMMARY: Feeds lumber into planer in a manner that ensures the best production and the most up-time.
- Feed planer efficiently for production while looking for and recognizing defects in lumber, such as, shake, twist or bow, broken or slabby ends, broken boards, dirt, mud, and rocks, as well as, make proper adjustments to the planer.
- Assist planer man in all aspects with changeovers, knife changes, greasing and oiling, clean-up of machine and surrounding areas, and maintenance.
- Assist Planer man with all set-ups and be able to differentiate between dry/green lumber, lam stock, and CLT lam stock_
- Grind all knives for planer production.
- Joint cutterheads for eased edge and straight.
- Consistently looking over planer area for preventative maintenance opportunities, such as, chains, belts, rolls, bearings, the hoist and chemical room.
- To serve as the back-up for the planer man as needed.
- May require employee to start work prior to shift, work after shift, work weekends and holidays with little
to no notice in order to maintain planer.
- Clean-up general area and perform preventative maintenance during downtime.
- Efficiently perform all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
- Efficiently run a test board.
- Verbally reports any unusual conditions to Planerman and/or Supervisor.
- Performs routine corrective maintenance or reports to planer man, supervisor or maintenance supervisor.
- Maintain and promotes awareness of safe working conditions and practices by following all policies and procedures. Caution others as necessary in working in a safe manner.
- Performs other duties and tasks as assigned by planerman supervisor.
- Must be able to perform within a team environment.
- Preferred high school graduate or GED_
- Must be self-motivated and able to perform assigned duties with little or no supervision.
- Good verbal and listening communication skills required.
- Good analysis/ problem solving skills.

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear and able to push or pull up to 100 pounds. Regularly, the employee is required to go up and down stairs, stand and use hands to finger. Intermittently employee is required to handle or feel, pull/push and stoop, kneel, or crouch. This position requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

This position works in a loud environment, exposed to weather elements and is very fast pace. This position will regularly be working near moving mechanical parts, exposed to fumes and airborne particles.
