What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Guidance Counselor (Anticipated Opening, 2025-2026) position at DR. Philip O. Coakley Middle School?
• Develop and provide an effective comprehensive guidance and counseling program to serve the needs of all students.
• Provide orientation programs to acquaint students with new situations and facilitate their school adjustment process.
• Provide guidance activities within the classroom.
• Assist administration with coordination of articulation and follow-up procedures for students moving from school-to- school and from
programs within the school.
• Act as a school-based source for parents and school staff for information regarding community agencies, activities, and
organizations.
• Assist with administration and interpretation of tests when appropriate.
• Assist students with immediate and long-range educational planning and course selection.
• Identify students who require special consideration and attention and initiate or arrange for modified curricula programs or
education alternatives designed to motivate and contribute to productive school experiences,
• Collaborate with school personnel and parents on educationally related issues, when needed.
• Assist with school-based attendance and truancy interventions.
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of records and related information and assist with management of student records.
• Participate in professional growth activities as directed by the Principal.
• Adhere to all applicable laws and district procedures and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/ or Director of Guidance.
