Position Summary Work with partnering arts administrators and educators to enhance the artistic and educational experience of technical, production, and performing arts college students who are pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. The Resident Artist Intern position will play a critical role in the success of Dr. Phillips Center summer programs and productions by taking on a variety of roles within the program including: teaching, creative team, performer, production and administration. In addition, they will receive training, workshops, and mentorship to further enhance their artistry, content development, developmental theory, classroom management, production, and performance. Through this experiential learning environment, our Resident Artist’s will experience a safe learning atmosphere through daily training and side by side collaboration with Dr. Phillips Center education team, fellow teaching artists and Broadway professionals, and creative team members who unitedly are responsible for all daily program goals.   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES Teach specified class in our day rotation for our School of the Arts Summer Program at the Dr. Phillips Center.  Students range in age from 6 to 18 years old. Help design and implement age-appropriate syllabus/lesson plans for specified summer camp weeks including two Musical Theater weeks. Assist with Take It From The Top Broadway week with Paul Canaan and other Broadway Artists. Be cast or serve as crew in our summer production of 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee Serve as a creative team member for the summer youth theater production of Hairspray (Assistant Director, Assistant Music Director, Assistant Choreographer, Stage Manager, etc) Attend scheduled Resident Artist Intern training sessions, meetings, professional development sessions and occasional special events. Submit written lesson plans, assessments, rehearsal reports, production materials, attendance/sign in & out sheets, and time sheets Prepare materials, coordinate and obtain equipment, materials and supplies needed for classes and/or rehearsals.  Be present for all production dates and tech rehearsals. Follow and support all operational policies and procedures.  Assimilate into the arts center culture through understanding, supporting and demonstrating the core values.  Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with other departments, colleagues, partners, students, and parents.  Able to remain calm under pressure.  Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.  Maintain Dr. Phillips Center standards of customer service at all times. Able to effectively communicate in English in both written and oral forms. Other duties as assigned.   Knowledge and Experience Interns must be currently enrolled or recent graduate of a musical theater/performance degree program (undergraduate or graduate).   Prefer students who are pursuing a BFA, BA, BM, or MFA, MEd, MA with a focus in arts education/performance.   Interns must have previous teaching experience and experience working with children. Special Conditions of employment This position requires the ability to work a variable schedule, sometimes including evenings and weekends. Must enjoy working with and inspiring children ages 6-18 years.  Must have patience, stamina and energy necessary to work with children in a summer camp setting. Interns will be asked to complete CPR/AED/First Aid training within the first 30 days or present an unexpired certificate of training. Interns will be required to complete Abuse & Molestation training prior to working with children (company provided training).
