Overview
Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School is seeking certified and experienced English New Language Arts teachers to provide instruction to our middle school students. Under the general supervision of the Principal, ENL teachers work collaboratively with other teachers within their department and across other content areas.
Responsibilities
Content Knowledge and Planning
- Exhibit an understanding of and skills relevant to the subject area(s) taught
- Demonstrate an ability to make topics and activities meaningful and relevant to each student
- Integrate available technology resources compatible with students’ needs and abilities
- Develop lesson plans that are clear, logical, and sequential using Understanding by Design principles
- Plan with appropriate specialist(s) to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students
Instructional Strategies
Lesson plan and prepare for instruction effectively on a weekly basis to support students at all levels of language acquisitionLink present content / skills with past and future learning experiencesEffectively use various instructional strategies (e.g., modeling, cooperative learning, collaboration, and reading and writing in the content areas) to differentiate learning for all studentsEffectively use questioning strategies to engage students and promote learningMonitor students’ understanding of the lesson and adjusts teaching when appropriateMaximize student learning by providing opportunities for all learners to participate actively and successfullyExplain content and demonstrates skills in a variety of ways to meet the needs of all studentsHold each learner individually responsible for learningAssessment

Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishNYS certification ENL preferredAt least 2 years prior teaching experience in middle school with ENL students preferredDemonstrate success working in and urban school settingsExcellent oral and written communication skillsExperience with educational technologySupervisory Responsibilities

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time 10-month position. This role is a fully in-person role serving students. The regular hours and workdays are Monday through Friday, 8 : 00 am to 4 : 00 pm in addition to any special events to which all staff are expected to attend.
Salary Range
70,000 - $90,000 annually (Based on Experience)
