Job Overview
The exceptional candidate must be at least 18 with a High School Diploma or equivalent. No previous chimney experience required. Must be able to work in tight spaces, high places (up to 45 feet), and on slanted roof surfaces (up to and including 12:12 pitch, 90-degree angle). It may also require working on regular scaffolds, as well as specialty scaffolds. It is necessary that our candidate be able to lift heavy bricks, and blocks, ranging from 60-100 pounds, for periods of up to 4 hours. Various, heavy hand power tools will be used to include a dry blade diamond saw (25 pounds). Our candidate must communicate with customers effectively, courteously, and politely at all times. Attention to detail, personal initiative and problem-solving are skills also required. Additional skills include, but are not limited to, learning masonry skills, specified local and national fire/building codes applicable to the business. Employee must also possess a current and valid driver’s license. Dr. SOOT is a drug-free workplace where random drug tests can occur. The company is expecting to train most of the skills described. To progress to the next level of Journeyman requires passing the C.S.I.A. certification exam and practical demonstration of skills.
Duties
- Utilize power tools and hand tools for various tasks.
- Conduct inspection work, ensuring compliance with safety standards, codes and regulations.
- Take direction and correction as a learning opportunity.
- Study codes and standards and prepare for the certification exam.
- Take direction and learn from team members to complete projects on time while maintaining safety protocols.
- Maintain an organized workspace, ensuring tools and materials are stored properly and maintenance checklists are completed.
Skills
- Develop proficiency in utilizing job software and tablet for reporting.
- Read job orders, comprehend and apply codes and standards to inspections.
- Consistent use of tools and putting them back
- Use power tools, including drills, saws, grinders, cement mixer,
- Develop ability to conduct thorough inspections with attention to detail as well as applying applicable codes and standards.
- Develop proficient use of hand tools for various tasks.
