Optometric Technician in Training- Terre Haute

As an integral part of our practice, an Optometric Technician plays a crucial role in supporting doctors in providing comprehensive eye care services by performing various diagnostic tests, gathering patient information, and ensuring efficient clinic operations.

Pay:
- Ophthalmic Technicians start at $17.00 per hour base pay.
- Receive a $1.50 raise as soon as 30 days after completing the Tavel Certification.
- Additional Bilingual Pay for:
- Spanish Fluency – additional $0.50 per hour added to base
- American Sign Language (ASL) – additional $0.50 per hour added to base
- Burmese Fluency – additional $1.00 per hour added to base
- French Creole – additional $0.50 per hour added to base
Responsibilities include:
- Assist doctor by conducting preliminary tests and assessments on patients and specialized diagnostic testing as needed
- Obtain and record patient medical history including previous eye conditions, family history of eye diseases, and current medications
- Working side-by-side with doctor reviewing daily scheduled appointments, communicating for flexibility of patient walk-ins, and adjusting timing of pre-exam vision screenings based on doctor’s needs with patients in examination room
- Ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of optometric equipment and instruments
- All things insurance: verifying eligibility, answers questions, and authorizing benefits
- Staying up to date with training to advance your skills and knowledge
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Must be able to attend mandatory two-week paid training period without absences
- Previous medical or pharmacy tech experience a plus, but not required
- Good interpersonal communication skills with ability to communicate with doctor
- Demonstrated ability to be empathetic and compassionate to patients’ needs and concerns while providing a supportive and comfortable environment
- Ability to work some Saturdays as needed
- Attention to detail with good documentation skills
- Good sense of time management and adaptability to changing priorities or patient needs
- Adherence to professional standards, patient confidentiality, and ethical guidelines in healthcare delivery
- A positive attitude and a willingness to strive for excellence
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to use iPad and navigate multiple windows for patient information and accurate record-keeping
