Job Title: Estimator General Contractor
Job Summary:
The Estimator General Contractor is responsible for determining the total cost of a construction project by assessing all aspects of the project, including labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and other costs. The Estimator works closely with the project team, including architects, engineers, and subcontractors, to ensure accurate and timely cost estimates for new projects and during the bidding process.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare Detailed Cost Estimates:
- Analyze blueprints, project specifications, and other documents to prepare accurate and detailed estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and time required to complete the project.
- Use estimating software and manual calculations to create cost estimates for large and complex construction projects.
Bid Preparation:
- Develop and submit bid proposals for construction projects by identifying project scope, objectives, and client requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to understand project needs and clarify any uncertainties.
- Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure cost efficiency.
Cost Analysis and Budgeting:
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and recommend methods for reducing project costs while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor project progress and update cost estimates as needed during the course of construction.
- Assist in developing project budgets and maintaining strict adherence to those budgets.
Risk Management:
- Assess risks associated with labor, materials, and schedule delays and include contingencies in estimates.
- Identify areas where construction delays or budget overruns are likely to occur and take preventative measures.
Subcontractor and Supplier Coordination:
- Solicit and review bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure the accuracy of quotes and coordinate with subcontractors to confirm costs and timelines.
Collaboration with Project Team:
- Work with architects, engineers, and project managers to ensure that all estimates align with project requirements.
- Assist in reviewing contracts and scope of work to ensure cost estimates are accurate and align with project goals.
Post-Project Analysis:
- After project completion, perform a cost analysis to determine actual costs versus the original estimate and help improve future estimating practices.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, or similar), MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.), and AutoCAD (optional).
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to prepare reports, make presentations, and liaise with clients and teams.
- Ability to evaluate construction documents thoroughly and ensure accurate estimates.
- Ability to identify issues early and provide solutions that keep the project on track.
Working Conditions:
- Typically works in an office environment, with frequent visits to construction sites.
- Must be able to review project plans and communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- May be required to work beyond normal business hours to meet deadlines.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
