What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machinist - Lathe & Mill (2nd Shift) position at Drake Plastics?
Summary:
We are seeking a full-time, career-minded, experienced Machinists with a broad aptitude in the industry to work on our 2nd shift. We will offer training on our specific materials/equipment and provide additional training as appropriate to improve the capabilities of our team.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities:
- Ability to produce quality, high value precision parts with CNC Machines.
- Mill: Haas / 3 to 5 axis
- Lathe: Doosan, Mazak QTN and OmniTurn
- Swiss-Type Lathe: Gen Turn 52CS Y2/8-axis
- Read and interpret engineering drawings - familiarity with GD&T is a plus.
- Perform machine setups with little to no assistance and familiar with fixtures.
- Edit programs on the machine to maintain tolerances related to material movement and tool wear.
- Knowledge of optimal tool selections, speeds, and calculations.
- Accurately maintain quality inspection documentation including FAI. Confirm parts are accurate to print with common inspection/measuring tools - calipers, micrometers, height gauge, comparator, CMM, etc.
- Ability to identify problems and/or defects, correct and prevent quality issues.
- Meet productivity & quality objectives. Driven and motivated to improve processes and productivity.
- Perform various other duties according to the needs of the department or company.
- Follow safety procedures & company policies. Conscious of maintaining a safe work environment.
- Keep all work areas clean and organized. Perform routine machine maintenance and inspections.
- Assist department as necessary.
Required Skills / Experience / Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3-5 years of machining experience required - experience with plastics & live tooling preferred.
- Experience with HAAS, Fanuc, Mazatrol and Mitsubishi 80V controls strongly preferred.

- High level of precision, attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Occasional lifting and physically capable. Usually light lifting, but sometimes up to 50 lbs.
- Willing to work extended shifts, if required.

Work Environment / Schedule:
The CNC Machinist position works primarily within climate-controlled industrial buildings. Will spend most of the day on your feet and working with your hands. The standard work schedule is Monday – Thursday, 4:15 p.m. – 2:45 a.m. (4/10s) with 30-minute unpaid dinner break. Shift differential available.
