Department Summary:
Drake University Public Safety is the main provider of emergency services and is committed to maintaining a safe campus environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. With staff available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Public Safety staff is committed to being active role-models for both students and employees and developing positive community relations with Des Moines Police Department and other organizations.
Job Summary:
Drake University Public Safety is seeking qualified candidates for the Public Safety Supervisor position. This person should have previous supervisory or management experience. The shift hours for this position will be the midnight shift, 11:15 pm - 7:15 am. The successful candidate will contribute to the safety of the university by patrolling campus, providing assistance in conflict resolution, assist in safety prevention efforts as well as supervise shift officers. Candidate should be able to perform all essential job functions and meet the minimum education and experience requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/ GED
- Written / verbal communication skills
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Computer experience
- A valid driver's license and ability to meet insurability requirements is required to drive on behalf of the university
- Post offer, pre-employment drug screen required
Job Duties:
- 40% - Supervise public safety officers, patrol areas, control traffic, conduct investigations, searches, monitoring security systems and responding to alarms. - (Essential)
- 35% - Patrol the grounds, buildings and parking areas to identify any irregular conditions that might result in property loss or injury, and take adequate intermediary measures to assure the protection of our employees, students, assets and public reputation. - (Essential)
- 5% - Act as coordination point in emergency situations by staying apprised of emergency response systems, monitor emergency activities and respond to outlined in department procedures, keep supervisors apprised of situation with regular updates. - (Essential)
- 5% - Conduct investigations into crimes that affect the university, its employees, students or visitors. This may include interviews, collecting physical evidence, preparing documentation and testifying in court. - (Essential)
- 5% - Keep upper management apprised of any developments or problems that may interfere with process or cause property loss. - (Essential)
- 5% - Conduct training of new patrol officers, schedule work assignments, administer employee discipline and perform employee evaluations. - (Essential)
- 5% - Safeguard the assets of the university against fire, theft, vandalism, sabotage, illegal entry and misuse. - (Essential)
