Trails and Open Space Seasonal Worker

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Trails and Open Space Manager, performs maintenance for Draper City’s Trails and Open Space program. Considerable emphasis is placed on safety procedures, working in a team-oriented environment, and operating equipment ranging from small hand tools up to heavy equipment. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Constructs and maintains trails.
• Maintains city facilities, and trails and open spaces.
• Performs weed mitigation, tree maintenance, and native plant establishment.
• Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment.
• Completes work orders and prepares reports and a daily work log.
• Completes miscellaneous repairs and maintenance.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Age - Mist be 18 years or older
• Education – High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
• Experience – Trails and open space experience preferred
• Licenses and Certifications 
  • • Valid Utah Driver License
    • Must pass a lift test of 50 pounds at time of interview

• Knowledge of –
  • • Effective equipment operation
    • Policies, procedures, equipment, and materials required for effective park/trails and open space related operations, maintenance, and repairs
    • State of Utah driver’s license rules and regulations
• Skill with –
  • • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy and kindness
    • Organizing assigned work and develop effective work methods
• Ability to –
  • • Learn aspects of park/trails and open space system and related maintenance and repairs
    • Perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time
    • Follow specific and general instructions; learn and follow standard safety practices and procedures inherent to operating equipment and performing job responsibilities

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, reach, use hands/finger to feel, handle, and grip, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl. Distances walked may frequently exceed several miles per day, often while carrying tools or other equipment. Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions. Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dusty or greasy conditions, Occasional exposure to high levels of noise. May operate equipment and drive vehicles. Must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

• Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., on site, in field
• Salary range:  $17.00 per hour and $17.50 per hour for return seasonals ($18.50 for returning seasonals in their fifth consecutive year)
• Anticipated start date: Season is March through November (Seasonal employment is not to exceed six months in duration)
• Incentives and end of season bonus
