Communications Specialist

Status: W2 Part-Time, non-exempt

Schedule: 20 Hours per week

Starting range: $24 - $27/hr - commensurate with experience

Supervisor: Medical Director / Chief Executive Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Dream Youth Clinic is the youth-engaged, youth-inspired, adolescent organization providing no-cost medical services, youth-led programs, youth leadership opportunities, and digital health education to the most vulnerable youth in the Oakland community ages 13-25. The Dream Youth Clinics are located within the Wellness Centers of Dreamcatcher and Covenant House Youth Shelters and at the Tiny House Youth Village.

The Communications Specialist is responsible for working with the Communications Coordinator and other members of the Dream Creative Team to develop and implement communications and Dream digital content that effectively promotes and supports Dream Youth Clinic’s brand, mission, and values. This role involves creating engaging and relevant content for various digital and print platforms, ensuring a consistent, innovative, compelling, and youth-centered voice across all channels. The ideal candidate is highly creative, skilled in graphic design, and experienced in social media content creation, including podcasting with post-production skills, live streaming, social media content creation, live interviewing, and website content.

Key Responsibilities:

The Communications Specialist will work closely with the Communications Coordinator to:

- Support the development and execution of Dream’s innovative social media based content including Dream’s podcasts, live interviews, and digital health education content creation.

- Design high-quality visuals for digital and print materials, including social media posts, newsletters, infographics, brochures, presentations, and other marketing collateral.

- Create, curate, and support content across various platforms, including podcasts, websites, blogs, newsletters, and social media channels, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.

- Collaborate with all Dream Team members to develop storytelling approaches that highlight organizational impact, key initiatives, and updates.

- Monitor and analyze communication metrics to measure effectiveness, make data-driven decisions, and optimize future content strategies.

- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve youth-centered communication strategies.

- Work with Dream Youth Leaders (youth interns) to support Dream youth-led communications projects.

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Health Communications, Public Health and Communications, Marketing, Graphic Design, Journalism, or a related field.

- 2 years of experience in a communications, marketing, or similar role.

- Proficiency in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva) and familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Squarespace, Mailchimp).

- Proficiency in podcasting platforms and/ or software ( e.g., Audacity, Adobe Audition, Descript, YouTube etc.)

- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a portfolio demonstrating successful content creation and design work.

- Experience with social media platforms (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn,) and understanding of social media analytics tools.

- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and collaborate effectively with team members.

- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project execution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Knowledge of podcasting, video editing software and multimedia production is a plus.

- Experience in brand management and communications strategy.

- Familiarity with email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp) and analytics platforms (e.g., Google Analytics).

- Experience working with youth and/or in at non-profit setting.

- Proficiency in analyzing data to inform strategic communication decisions.

- Adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
