The Superintendent position includes effectively and safely managing dredging projects by overseeing the day-to-day operations on-site. The duties of a Superintendent include maintaining productive projects that range in size and durations while ensuring that all project and company objectives are met.

Primary Role

A Superintendent manages all personnel onsite, establishes and maintains a relationship with the project owner and enforces safety at all times. Below is a list of the primary duties that will be covered under this role.

  • Models the Dredge America values: Committed to do the right thing with a can-do-attitude.
  • Keeps company equipment clean and well maintained.
  • Maintains good housekeeping on jobsite.
  • Manages and provides clear direction to subordinates which could be up to 10 people including Site Managers, Operators, Deckhands, Laborers and Interns.
  • Maintains good communication with Operations Manager.
  • Perform basic manual labor tasks.
  • Utilize a proactive approach to managing a project.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation of project including daily reports, weekly summary reports, etc.
  • Perform, participate in and document daily safety meetings.
  • Maintain and instruct others on proper safety procedures.
  • Serve as project Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO).
  • Utilize basic mechanical knowledge to inspect equipment, analyze, troubleshoot and plan sequence of repair operations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with vendors and subcontractors.
  • Develops and maintains a good working relationship with the client.
  • Attend all project coordination meetings with the engineer and owner.
  • Manages personnel issues within the crew.
  • Ability to read and interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Must be able to perform all duties of the Dredge Operator and Site Manager.
  • Train new employees in all phases of work including the operation of equipment, use of tools and methods or procedures of work.
  • Coordinate service calls with Shop/Equipment Manager.
  • Coordinate parts runs; maintain sufficient parts inventory including safety supplies.
  • Recommend improved work methods and procedures.
  • Responsible for all company owned and rented equipment.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience.
  • Technical training or graduation from a technical school is a plus.
  • Training in heavy and marine equipment is a plus.
  • Training in project management and supervisory skills.

Skills

  • Must be able to consistently meet or exceed minimum production standards as set forth in project budget.
  • Must be highly organized and able to work independently.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of working on and around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work effectively and establish good working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work effectively with the general public.
  • Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather, and under various working conditions. Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Basic computer skills with Word, Excel and Outlook.

Other

  • 100% travel is required.
  • 12-hour days/7 days a week/3 week on 1 week off rotation schedule. This may include overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Able to live with crew members in project lodging, i.e. hotels, rental homes, rental apartments, etc.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Clear driving record.
  • Reliable source of transportation.
  • Able to pass a background check and drug screen.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States.
  • Comfortable around water.
