Mechanical Engineer Internship

Description

Dresser Utility Solutions is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Electronics Value Stream, responsible for developing fixtures, tools, and drive design changes/improvements under the direction of senior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Review, update and/or develop work instructions.
  • Understand the processes and requirements in the assembly line to determine test specifications, procedures, test equipment, nature of technical problems, and possible solutions to improve the output of production.
  • Design layouts for manufacturing or service operations to maximize efficiency, productivity quality and safety
  • Study and analyze workflows, operations and production processes to identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) to optimize resource use.
  • Understand Line Balancing in an assembly line to optimize the distribution of tasks among workstations to ensure an even flow of production and minimize inefficiencies. The goal is to reduce the bottleneck.
  • Understand Lean Manufacturing (systematic approach to production that focuses on minimizing waste while maximizing value for the customer) such as Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping and Kanban SMED etc.
  • Identify and incorporate advanced technologies, such as automation, robotics, and AI, to improve efficiency and output.
  • Drafts detail drawings or sketches for drafting room completion or to request parts fabrication by machine, sheet metal, electrical, or wood shops.
  • Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment and machinery, power equipment, servo systems, machine tools, and measuring instruments.
  • Sets up and conducts tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or other factors, or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
  • Analyzes indicated and calculated test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives and modifies or adjusts equipment to meet specifications.
  • Records test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test method.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform other duties as necessary to ensure efficient plant operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled student majoring in Mechanical Engineering and having completed at least the freshman year.
  • Minimum GPA requirement of 3.2.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Will be interacting with production, maintenance, vendors, contractors, management, and engineering.
  • Occasionally involved in presentations and providing training for plant personnel.
  • Must have good problem solving skills both from a troubleshooting and project planning standpoint.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CREO, SolidWorks, or similar).
