Main Purpose of the job:

Provides the leadership necessary to establish and maintain quality levels of products through sanitation, ingredient, packaging and quality systems management. The role is the ‘Leader’ of compliance to regulatory and hygiene standards. Provides technical expertise and support to ensure compliance to regulatory requirements, product quality, and food safety. This will be achieved by ensuring all processes are effectively reviewed, used and managed, through having a clear knowledge and understanding of requirements, attention to detail and providing all teams with inspiration, guidance, motivation and effective control.

Role and Activity

  •  To ensure our manufacturing facility is clean, always organized and operating under discipline
  •  Educate and train departmental personnel on correct procedures and new analysis methods.
  •  Assist departmental personnel with analysis tasks as needed to ensure timely results.
  •  Maintain supplies and instrumentation for operating departments.
  •  Responsibility and authority, in conjunction with the Operations Manager and Quality Manager, to cease specific analyses under their responsibility when evidence from the quality system indicated the process is not in control and the quality of the results is compromised as a result of the non-conformances.
  •  Maintain knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
  •  Ensure that employees obtain knowledge of GLP sufficient to perform job responsibilities.
  •  Institute and maintain systems to monitor and verify related GLP training.
  •  Monitor and maintain Environmental Monitoring Program, including equipment swabs, air samples, water sampling, and product samples
  •  Monitor and maintain raw material, in-process, and finished product testing; ensuring methods and procedures are appropriately followed
  •  Ensuring the facility procedure and activities are followed through to completion; providing direction and technical expertise to Microbiology Laboratory personnel and to the plant
  •  Providing leadership during problem solving situations related to microbial issues (Lesson Learnt). Leads problem solving efforts related to microbial issues.
  •  Cost management over lab supplies and testing. Reviewing lab testing and supplies invoices.
  •  Training microbiological team on biohazard and biosecurity hazards, safety and protocol.
  •  Interfaces with division personnel in the development of microbiological guidelines and specifications.
  •  Assures compliance to all procedures and policies concerning all areas of quality, regulatory, safety and human resources for all reporting departments.
  • Audit microbiological lab for any possible microbiological contamination and safety hazards.
  • To manage, monitor and control costs to ensuring costs are within budgeted requirements
  • To carry out regular appraisals with your team. Ensuring that performance management, performance appraisals and training are taking place throughout production on a regular basis-Performance management with team.
  • Ensure correct methods and practices are used for analytical methods and monitoring programs.
  • Monitor and optimize release process and lab results.
  • Efficient management of the team in the lab
  • Open and prompt communication channels with the production through the lab team and hygienist.
  • Speedy lab results throughout the entire week
  • Other duties as assigned and other projects related to microbiological and environment.

WORK ENVIRONEMENT

In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment. The work is fast paced.   

The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens.   

The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between $70,000 to $90,000 per year.
