Job Overview:
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Psych NP) provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, treatment planning, medication management, and psychotherapy services to adult patients with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. The Psych NP collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care. This role includes prescribing psychotropic medications, conducting psychosocial assessments, and ensuring seamless integration of behavioral health and psychiatric services within outpatient care settings.
Responsibilities:
- Provide psychiatric care to patients, including conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, establishing psychiatric diagnoses, and developing treatment plans.
- Perform History & Physical assessments upon admission to the program.
- Prescribe psychotropic medications and manage controlled substances as per state and federal regulations, following clinic protocols.
- Collaborate with other members of the medical team, working closely with the Medical Director and clinical staff.
- Participate in an interdisciplinary team, providing psychiatric expertise in case reviews and treatment planning sessions.
- Conduct risk factor assessments, order diagnostic tests, and interpret results as part of the patient’s treatment plan.
- Provide psychotherapy as part of a holistic approach to patient care.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation in electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with clinic, state, and federal regulations.
- Engage in patient education, offering counseling on psychiatric conditions, substance use disorders, and medication management.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals when necessary to ensure appropriate patient care.
- Ensure all practices align with regulatory guidelines (TJC, CARF, HIPAA) and uphold the clinic’s standards for patient care and safety.
- Lead initiatives to promote professional development, mentorship, and continuous education within the clinical team.
- Promote and model excellent customer service at all levels of the program.
- Perform telehealth services as required.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Licensure: Current Colorado Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) license. DEA license and CPR certification required.
- Certification: X-waivered license for MAT prescribing or proof of MAT training.
- Education: Completion of an advanced pharmacology course, including Schedule II controlled substances.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with psychiatric patients and those with co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Skills: Strong clinical and communication skills, proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Other Requirements: Negative TB test, adherence to continuing education requirements, and a commitment to professional development.
