Role:
  • Be a structured, detail oriented, high energy leader with great communication skills who is excited to oversee all aspects of an experiential cafe, from serving our guests with a smile to hiring and developing great teams. This role will be the key person to direct and carry out operations at the cafe style (table service) model so that all guests leave feeling satisfied. The successful Manager will ensure their teams are supported and meet all product, hospitality and cleanliness standards at all times. There are a number of details to your job description, but at the very top are two: make sure your teams are prepared and have the tools they need to succeed in their roles each shift in order to create great guest experiences; and routinely engage those in your direct report in meaningful, purposed, guided attention, looking for where they need support, how we can improve their roles, and build more proficient teams. You should lead by example, and be an active participant as a manager, not a sideline coach or passive, “delegate only” leader.

Responsibilities (Critical behaviors associated with this role):

PEOPLE
  • Meaningful Engagement is critical to how your teams will develop, learn, and perform to DRIFT standards and policies. Monitors team member skill sets, communicates with direct reports to proactively maintain a responsible and effective scheduling strategy.
  • Use Monthly Team Assessments to build & develop teams consistency in performance and efficiencies that will ultimately highlight how we can continually measure and improve our goal to run a successful operation. Peak performance in peak volume hours depends on a continual assessment of our processes and systems in action.
  • Day-to-Day observe how the intentions of service are being applied to arrive at our goal of great guest experiences. You should be able to recognize stress points in a service and act to anticipate where you or your team needs to adjust. Adjustments throughout each shift is a routine. The more practiced you are at communicating, the more practiced your teams are at shifting into those adjustments, the more successful your shifts will be.
  • Manages administrative duties during off peak hours.
  • Takes full accountability for all action and results within the targeted operation as per timeline/deliverables mentioned above.
  • Sets the standards of the Company and the stores through example, self-discipline, 100% consistency and continuous improvement. “Ensuring that each interaction with guests is successful”
  • Maintains team records for Coaching and Acknowledgement sessions and one-on-ones with stores line employees to ensure clear communication and continued achievement of our operational goals is met.
  • Solicits opinions and input from FOH and BOH leaders and line level staff, regarding all aspects of the operation, and is able to act on that or take to corporate for adjustments in policy.
  • Ensures that appropriate, budgeted staffing levels (management & hourly) of his/her Cafes are achieved and maintained using strategic planning. In particular, the following areas of responsibility:

Administration:
  • Constructs weekly reports on their targeted store to be shared and analyzed with Operations Director. Performance of the operation broken down into the Weekly 5s.
  • Weekly: Weekly 5s Review/Item Image
  • Scheduling
  • Ordering
  • Monthly/Bi-Monthly:Team Performance Assessments
  • Payroll/Tip Reporting/Inventory

Management Development/Succession Plan:
  • Continually assesses the status of each team member, flagging high and low performing members, and apply a “weekly work-on” highlight that can be revisited throughout each week in short, small engagements between teams. Communicate regularly with Area Manager/Operations Director who can assist in furthering action strategies to address the developmental issues of each team member and/or effective succession plans.
  • Coaches, mentors and develops key hourly employees through same “weekly work-on's” to ensure long-term viability and success of each store and the company.

PRODUCT:
Quality of Operations:
  • Ensures that the store is operating at or above our standards.
  • Possesses an attention for detail in all areas of each operation.
  • Instills in the team an expectation to maintain high standards in all areas of Hospitality, Service Execution, Coffee and Food Production, Safety, Cleanliness and Sanitation.

Quality Assurance & Sanitation & DOH:
  • Works closely with his/her stores leaders and team to ensure the quality of all aspects of the stores; including the Coffee stations, Beverage Service, Food Production, Service Execution and Physical Plant structure, and is specifically responsible for: Ensuring a safe and clean environment is the norm and all products and equipment are being handled properly.
  • Regular comprehensive analysis of online reviews along with staff feedback regarding food and beverages.
  • Maintain DOH standards at all time and perform a timely review, follow up and establish action plans as needed for:
    • Sanitation Shop Scores
    • Health Department Inspections
    • Food & Service Quality

PHYSICAL PLANT:
  • Works closely with teams to ensure the daily upkeep of the physical plant, in particular with the following:Regular walk-through's of the stores to determine areas which need attention or repair, and real time communication to in-store management/Operations team to resolve these issues. Including physical plant and pest extermination.
  • Ensures that a running punch list of “need to have” as well as “nice to have” items is maintained and is being handled in a timely fashion as appropriate.

PROMOTION:
  • Works with teams to increase guest counts, daily sales, operational profitability and help develop a loyal local base through stellar service and quality.
  • Remains constantly focused on the importance of making decisions with the best interest of the guests, the staff and the owners in mind - the focus is on long-term results

PROFIT:
  • Possesses knowledge of actual trends in covers, check averages, menu mix and demand by meal periods, in real time
  • Ensures that each of his/her stores meets and exceeds budgeted financial goals, and is specifically responsible for working side by side with teams to manage labor in real time, by meal periods and days of the week
  • Analyzing monthly Profit and Loss statements with Area and Operations Manager(s) for their store; and with guidance from Area and Operations Manager(s), develop accurate strategies for maintaining/improving store targets, that can be both implemented and coached to management teams.
  • Working meticulously to ensure accuracy for all aspects of purchasing, storage and inventory within each store.
