GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Responsible for providing education and administrative support for centralized educational activities in conjunction with the Professional Development Practice Specialist/ Department Director. Participates in designing, implementing, and evaluating professional development activities at the unit and centralized level. Is the key department lead for coordinating various programs and classes/events. Assists with or oversees the effective and efficient implementation of the key education, annual competence assessment, preceptor and instructor development, required ongoing training, patient education, and evidence-based practice.

- Facilitates the creation of a climate conducive to learning and a good relationship with learners/customers.
- Coordinates programs and educational activities/events across systems, departments and disciplines.
- Develops programs and educational activities/events that address identified learning needs.
- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate or program compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Facilitates the use and management of equipment and training rooms to ensure upkeep and optimal use.
- Maintains policies and procedures associated with key programs and education activities as needed.
- Assigns and oversees the development and implementation of evidenced based education programs, in-services and continuing education utilizing principles of adult education.
- Uses and evaluates material resources and facilities for effectiveness in education endeavors.
- Implements activities to support critical thinking skills and facilitate behavioral change.
- Assists with the development and implementation of conferences/seminars for the medical, nursing, and other clinical disciplines community and health programs for the general community; develops promotional materials and brochures.
- Possesses proficient knowledge of how to apply adult teaching learning principles in educational activities.
- Teaches courses as necessary to support work load of the team
- Maintains instructorship status in the identified specialty courses as required
- Participates in committees and projects organizationally.
- Serves as a resource person and consultant to staff, clinical students and instructors.
- Acts as a role model for new Professional Development staff and preceptors.
- Supports the integration of research into clinical practice.
- Incorporates research findings into educational programs.
- Assesses resources needed to facilitate data collection.
- Participates in data collection associated that can be used for decision-making or program change.
- Monitors data and quality outcomes to identify trends in programs and modifies as necessary.
- Maintain required documentation and recordkeeping systems for students, programs and instructors as necessary per program/regulatory requirements.
- Assumes program lead role as required for assigned program i.e. Transition to Professional Nursing Practice, American Heart Association Training Center
- Becomes a CNE Nurse Planner under the direction of the DCH Lead Nurse Planner when requested to support the overall needs of the department or specialty service area
- Supports the maintenance of regulatory requirements, including NPSG’s, HIPAA etc.
- Participates and organizes departmental meetings and committee meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned to accomplish organizational goals.
- Provides administrative support for unit based operations.
- Starts and completes tasks with minimum of prompting. Willing to make recommendations and assume additional responsibilities to improve workflow, workload and efficiency.
- Adjusts and updates schedule to facilitate needs of staff, timekeeping and workforce management.
- Supports program database/learning management system.
- Displays strong critical thinking and leadership skills.
- Follows established organizational guidelines to determine deployment of resources.
- Bachelors degree in Nursing and a Master degree in Nursing, or relevant field required.
- Licensed as an RN in the State of Texas
- Education and/or experience in adult education preferred
- Current Texas RN Licensure.
- Specialty certification in professional development or training and development preferred. Certification required to be attempted upon reaching eligibility.
- Certification as an instructor in specialty courses to support team as appropriate and determined by Director.
