About the Role

This position offers the best of criminal defense practice. Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

  • Represent clients daily, primarily in courtrooms in Lake County, Illinois -- Waukegan, Mundelein, Park City, and Round Lake Beach.
  • Negotiate with prosecutors, advise clients on case outcomes, and handle a variety of cases from minor traffic violations to DUIs and other misdemeanors.
  • A typical caseload consists of about 120 cases at any given time -- approximately 40 traffic tickets, 30 misdemeanor DUIs, 40 traffic misdemeanors (aggravated speeding, DWLS/R, reckless, etc), and 5-10 felonies (mostly traffic-related).
  • Prepare cases for hearings or trials, manage evidence, and use your skills to achieve the best outcomes for your clients.

You’ll have your own caseload and autonomy to practice law your way—but you’ll never be on your own. Our attorneys truly work as a team, meeting daily to discuss cases, collaborating to share strategies, and providing coverage when schedules conflict. Training sessions happen multiple times a month, and senior attorneys are always available to guide and support.

To make your job even easier, you’ll work alongside a dedicated Case Manager who helps advance your cases and handle client communication, so you can focus on lawyering. Importantly, you won’t need to be a rainmaker bringing in new clients or handling intake—your only job is to be the best advocate for your clients.
