Job Summary: This position is responsible for performing for the repair and required preventive maintenance of specialty Gillig commuter transit buses while keeping up our level of commitment to safety and customer service. The role has daily preventive and repair tasks to support our operations and ensure the success of a municipal contract. Specific requirements of this position are a knowledge of double-door, low-floor municipal transit buses and heavy diesel repair. Experience with Gillig buses, Cummins ISL engines, and Allison B400R transmissions is a major plus. We manage corporate accounts and commercial contracts in Arizona, Utah and Wyoming. The work location of this full-time position is a shop environment in downtown Salt Lake City, UT. We offer competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform major diagnostics and repairs on Cummins ISL diesel engines, Allison B400R transmissions, and general Gillig systems.
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems including emissions, injectors, turbos, etc.
  • Conduct regular preventative maintenance
  • Be able diagnose problems using brand-specific software and plan repairs
  • Inspecting, trouble shooting, diagnosing and performing maintenance on vehicles.
  • Perform safety inspections of vehicles and prepare safety documents required by FMCSA, UDOT, UTA and any other Federal, State or Local regulations.
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the work meets specifications and regulations.
  • Follows all Driver Provider and OSHA safety guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly work environment
  • Other duties as required.


Required Skills/Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be extremely mechanically skilled and detailed oriented, work in a fast-paced environment, and perform at a high level of accuracy on a consistent basis.

  • Must have PROVEN and VERIFIABLE experience with similar equipment.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years experience
  • Must have valid drivers license, Class B CDL preferred.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written), incl. presentation skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Good driving record that meets company standards.
  • Must possess own mechanic's tool set and have the ability to use those tools and test equipment.
  • Strength and stamina required to work with heavy equipment (up to 75 pounds) and work in awkward positions.
  • The ability to keep up with changing technology and updates.
  • Experience in use of Computer and associated software preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test, and adhere to Drug/Alcohol & Employment Policies.
  • The ability to work alone and as part of a team.
  • Diesel Diagnostics/Troubleshooting: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Emissions: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Injector repair/replace: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Diesel engine repair: 2 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Class B CDL (Preferred)
  • Driver's License (Required)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Work in Salt Lake City, UT with travel to off-site locations as may be needed.
  • High school diploma or greater
  • Undergo a pre-employment background investigation
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • 23 years or older for company vehicle insurance requirements

Physical Working Conditions:

Position would spend time in a shop and field work in outdoor or garage locations, as well as inside various passenger vehicles. Work may require prolonged leaning, bending, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. Field work would require the ability to work outside in various weather conditions and actively enter, repair or travel around in a vehicle. The position will also require the ability to lift, drag and push materials and equipment, paper and documents weighing up to 75 pounds with proper equipment.

Special Requirements: (1) Must be willing and able to travel to and attend training and meetings within or outside the boundaries of the home area; (2) Must be willing and able to work outside regular business hours and on occasional weekends, as needed.
