Position Title:   Construction Observer II

General Summary:                                                                                                            

 

A Construction Observer II usually has 5 plus years of similar experience, will provide field engineering and technical support services for ReadiTech Engineering Outside Plant Construction projects. A construction observer is a person, spending most of their time outside, watching and observing contractors placing facilities for Telecommunication Companies. Travel is required with reimbursement of expenses as applicable.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Construction observation of Telecommunications Outside Plant Construction Projects
  • Oversee construction management as well as prepare and maintain field records
  • Assist with design, plans, specifications, reports, maps, schedules, estimates, data collection, and documents and agreements as needed
  • Communicate consistently with the project manager and contractors
  • Provide coordination of ReadiTech Engineering staff, clients and contractors
  • Participate in and facilitate meetings with contractors, public and or private permitting entities and clients
  • Provide quality control by reviewing completed work to ensure compliance with ReadiTech Engineering quality standards
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication
  • Lead, mentor, and direct others
  • Read and interpret construction plans to provide client management and effectively communicate by answering inquiries from coworkers, contractors, clients, or the public
  • Become familiar with the plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately
  • Utilize Microsoft Office software as well as other software and equipment to prepare and revise technical drawings using company established standard procedures
  • Will be required to understand and follow company established standard drafting procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects                                
  • Having a strong work ethic and be a self-starter, able to effectively manage multiple priorities and adapt to change within a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles
  • Regular, reliable, consistent and punctual attendance is required
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to fulfill job function or as assigned

 

Qualifications:                                                 

 

  • Knowledge and understanding of aerial, underground, copper, fiber and substructure design
  • Knowledge and understanding of telephone industry standards, local telecom practices and procedures, local city, state, and government rules and regulations
  • Knowledge and experience in Telecommunications Outside Plant Construction projects
  • Skill in Microsoft Office program
  • Skill in field data collection utilizing Trimble handheld GPS equipment, computer aided drafting systems or Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Ability to apply principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and production
  • Ability to facilitate field visits and meetings with customers, developers and government agencies
  • Ability to exercise independent thinking, creativity, and initiative
  • Ability to work independently
  • Demonstrate desire to learn new skills as technologies change
  • Demonstrate the ability to multi-task

 

Education and Experience:   

 

  • (5) years of related work experience in telecommunications outside plant preferred
  • Project Management experience
  • Experience managing employees and construction projects
  • Underground utility construction observation experience
  • Experience with the installation practices of utility construction projects

 

Hours and Travel

 

This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 10% of time spent in the office and 90% in the field during the construction season. Travel may be necessary dependent on the jobsite location.

The employee must:

  • Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to three miles per day
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
