Job Summary
Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full time Senior Technical Writer. This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility but has the option to be a hybrid schedule or a remote worker. The Senior Technical Writer is responsible for authoring all assigned technical materials, such as equipment manuals, or operating and maintenance instructions for all military and commercial programs.
Job Responsibilities
Write all assigned technical materials, such as equipment manuals, or operating and maintenance instructionsOversee Tech Manual development to ensure content, style and format are in accordance with current standards.Ensures quality of manuals are in compliance with both DRS and Customer's expectationsCoordinate with Tech Manual supplier in review of published materials and recommend revision or changes in scope, format, content and methods of reproduction and bindingConsult with customer representatives and suppliers to establish technical specifications and determine subject material to be developed for publicationOrganize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminologyAnalyze developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new materialArrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of materialInterview production and engineering personnel and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methodsSupport, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organizationSelect photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate materialStudy drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detailQualifications
Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related technical field5 years' experience in Tech Manual development and DoD specification complianceProven experience in writing and editing training materialsExperience working in a DOD environmentMust have the ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings / schematicsAbility to observe production, development, and experimental activities to determine operating and maintenance procedures and detailsKnowledge of MIL-STD 40051, Deployed Equipment (DE) Style Guide, MIL-STD 38784, MIL HDBK 1222, and S1000DMust have strong interpersonal skills as well as strong communication skills (both oral and written)Must be proficient in using desktop publishing software, Microsoft Office Applications and TM publishing software such as ArbortextAbility to work in an office environment and a standard maintenance environment, onsite or offsite as required
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
The expected pay scale for this position is $78,818.00 / year - $111,280.00 / year for the states of Illinois and Minessota, $85,600.00 / year - $122,408.00 / year for the state of Washington, and $89,491.00 / year - $127,971.00 / year for the state of California. Should the level, location, or scope of the position change during the hiring process, the pay scale may be modified accordingly. When extending an offer of employment, Leonardo DRS considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position; any Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, the candidate's relevant work experience, education / training, certifications, and key skills; internal equity; and market and business considerations.
